Tui uk celebration

Recommended Posts

we went on the celebration from Malaga on 21/4 ,finding our way to the coach was a long walk but only a 20min transfer to the ship ,you don't have to take your cases off the coach as they take them to the cabin for you,we were through check in within 10 mins and enjoying some lunch before we set off to enjoy Malaga ,we went in the mdr at night as was asked twice by the same waiter if we would like to buy the drinks package we told him the second time a firm no and was not asked again, all through the cruise.the food and service all week was first class and our cabin cleaner ,min oo was the best we have ever had, towel animals every day cabin spotless and he didn't start while 6.30 on a night but would phone to see if we needed ice or anything, the places we visited we nice apart from Casablanca where we stayed on the ship as we have been there before, the captain said at 2am in the morning the ship said we will be transferring the ownership to tui uk and we have big plans for her also the other ones in the fleet, one tip if you are going to Gibraltar ,people said morrisons only let you buy 200 cigs and the duty free shop at the port said is a lot cheaper, also the people that bought a lot of cigs at different ports had them taken off them by Malaga customs, thanks again marella for another first class cruise.

I Think they will be still be marella but we hopefully will get better deals with tui uk, they said the dream will go ai ,but I can see a lot of people not being happy if they don't drink a lot,as the price will be tailored in ,one more positive note the captain John was one of the best I have sailed with ,once he talked to you he would go out of his way to talk to yo again,Bernie Flint was the singer / comedian and he had everyone in stitches,

I am confused. Thomson Celebration became Marella Celebration last year. Are people suggesting there is yet another name change to TUI Celebration.?

Why have one ship with a different name? it does not make sense.

Please enlighten me

Indeed. I wonder if it is merely a transfer of Celebations long term charter from Thomson to TUI as Thomson no longer exists. Apparently Celebration is still owned by Holland America Line.

TUI UK/Ireland is Marella cruises parent company

It's called the Marella Celebration and it is now owned by Tui, which is, I believe, the parent company.

According to the captain there is a five year plan for the Celebration and it is having a four week refurbishment in November.

You might be right Dave who ever have tried testing the water for a buyer and found she,s to old -fashioned to sell for used tonnage , and TUI might be getting her on the cheap along with Dream and starting another Cruise line letting Marella buy newer ship,s idid see two Millennium ships for sale slightly bigger than Century class. just a thought :)

You beat me to it Gate 54 you may be right, IMHO i think she is passed her sell by date, but i do like the Vision class Marella have now, having cruised on Discovery twice and trying Discovery 2 next year.

I don't think they would keep her for 5 more years if they didn't think they could make money ,you only have to look at people who go on her time after time ,I would go on her again in a heartbeat

I took it to mean they were transferring the ownership from HAL to TUI which I would presume to mean they were buying the Celebration.

Yes, that is the logical answer, it will be wholly owned by TUI but called the Marella Celebration and of course run by Marella.

Celebration was my first cruise ship and got me hooked although I would not cruise on her now because of the location of the single cabins. If they could fix that I would be happy to try her again

Hi Dave we talked to a lady solo traveller who was on a back to back and she said she always books with her ta ,as he gets her the best price on single cabins. Also I asked someone in the casino if he was called Dave as he was saying he has won enough to pay for two cruises, and you say you like the casino so I thought it might be you but wrong Dave .

My Celebration cruises were several years ago and I never won more than £400 in the casino :(

If I was a rich man I would pay for a double cabin to get away from the engines.

I like the Celebration, but she does have design issues, that a refit won't solve.

If you are in the Horizons lounge on deck 9 and in port (not at sea) the ship shakes and I mean a real shake. If your drink is full, it will spill over. You get used to it but it is annoying and shouldn't be that bad. All the balconies are on deck 9 and you feel the shake then. This is a problem as in a weeks cruise, you (normally) only have 1 sea day.

I believe this is due to the age of her and something is wrong that they can't fix without major work being done.

Another design problem I have is the Broadway Show Lounge is in the middle of the ship. All other ship's I have been on, the show lounge is at the front of the ship like a theatre style venue. On Celebration, this is a flat lounge with not much-raised seating at the back. To get to the Lido Restaurant from the shops or Hemingway's Bar, then you walk through the show lounge. They put up signs to stop people during a show, but a sign isn't going to stop the hungry people and having this constant flow of passengers walking through a show, spoils the viewing experience of everyone watching. The venue is in the wrong place and can't be moved. Either the doors need to locked (won't happen due to H&S) or someone employed at the door as a bouncer to stop passengers and direct them to go around.

These are the only issue's I have with the ship and it's not enough to spoil an entire cruise, but if it comes down to choosing between Celebration and another ship, then another ship would win. I would only go back on Celebration if it was the only ship going where I wanted on the dates I could. But as we all know, there is a lot of choices out there.

I think the 'shake' is more of a 'wobble' with a random frequency and intensity. I have never seen it so bad as to spill a drink! Celebration cruisers don't notice it!

Why is it there? This might be true but it was what I was told.

Celebration and her sister Spirit are based on container ship hulls that were partially built and for sale in a previous recession. They had to have twin propellers and engines because they were passenger ships and when those mods were made there was little room left for the generator plant. This is a single multi fuel? engine and wobbles. They installed dampening and apparently dampened slung decks. these may have rusted solid over the decades. Extensive thought has gone into curing the problem but it would cost more than the value of the ship. The captain of Celebration told us they can generate leccie off the main drive shafts but this is no good for the fuel consumption.

Well, all the Celebration cruisers I sailed with whom were in Horizons when in port noticed it, complained about it and most left and went down decks to avoid it.

This makes sense. I know someone would have the facts as to why it happens. Just strange that it's only in port and not at sea.

I wondered why whenever I went up to horizons for a drink most people were asleep, must rock them to sleep ,and I have been on the celebration Severn times and not seen anybody's drink spill, mind you a lot of them from Glasgow. Ok only joking.

Looks like you were correct as according to the International Maritime Organisation's database the ship's registered owner changed to TUI UK Ltd on 25 April 2018. The Marella Dream is still listed as being owned by an associated company of Costa Crociere.

What I was told they would come under tui uk ,have to wait and see ,maybe someone sailing on these might hear something that we don't know .

Tui Uk is actually TUI UK/Ireland and Marella is its cruise line so Celebrations ownership transferring from Holland America to TUI UK just means it will be owned and not chartered. It will still be branded Marella Celebration and be part of TUI UK/Ireland's cruise operation. All it is is a change of ownership, nothing to worry about.
