Moveover Offer - Princess Air refund?

I keep reading about moveover offers and am wondering what happens to flights booked via Princess Air when you give up your cruise for one at a later date. It's been posted that Princess Air flights are "protected"... what exactly does that mean?

Are you given a refund for flights on original booking or are you credited amount of original flights to use towards flights for a future cruise?

You are credited the flights. What "protected" means is that they will take care of your flights to the replacement cruise. If the cost of the flights for the new cruise is higher than what you paid for this cruise, Princess will cover the difference. If the cost of the flights for the replacement cruise is less than what you paid for the flights for this cruise, you'll get the difference back as a refund.

It works the same way with travel insurance if booked thru Princess.

The bottom line is that you won't get any refund at the time you accept the move over. Everything is kept in a special office who deals with this. You'll be able to book the next cruise at totally no cost to you AND everything you paid for this cruise is credited to you as REFUNDABLE OBC. Spend it as you wish on the replacement cruise and anything that is left will be refunded to you. They said it would take 6 weeks for the refund, but in our case it was about 3 weeks.

I would contact the office that deals with move overs before you book EZAir for the replacement cruise. They will handle all the details for you.

And as above--if offered a move over, call Princess immediately. Then hash out the details. It's a great deal as long as your dates can be flexible.

we went the next week from a 5 day to a 7 day

as stated, we got the complete 5 day cruise fare as OBC

we had prepaid grats on the 5 and that transferred to 7 day grats

same as travel insurance, not refunded, but not increased for the 7

same as port taxes, not refunded, but not increased for the 7

moved up a slight cat in interior rooms...

was a great deal for us as we had actually looked at booking that exact cruise, had both schedules worked out, and no air fare involved...

Thankyou for your quick responses. Was a bit worried about air but exactly what I wanted to hear. Now I'll know to call back immediately should a moveover offer come my way. :D

Thanks again!

They will restrict what you are able to move to. For example, if you are in the US and have a 7 night cruise in the Caribbean, they are not going to allow you to move to a 20 night cruise in Japan. They will typically give you a max number of nights that you can move to and define the departure port--FLL, or any US departure, or whatever. They will sometimes offer only one or two cruises as possibilities to move to (that happens when those cruises are near in time and not booked full yet), they'll move you to them rather than have empty cabins.

Bottom line--the offer is always a good deal if you can take advantage of it.

Typically if you booked air privately, they will offer a specified amount toward air change fees. As above, they will roll over any perks that you have on the canceled cruise to the new one--complimentary gratuities, sip and sail, or whatever.

I can attest to the fact that you'll get amount refunded immediately if the air fare for the new cruise is less. We accepted a moveover offer for a South America cruise earlier this year. The first replacement cruise we selected was to Singapore. We couldn't fathom that the air fare would be cheaper for the new cruise but it was. As soon as we ticketed the new flights we selected in the Cruise Personalizer, they issued a refund for the overage to our credit card. We will also receive $$ for port taxes back on our folio when we are on the ship in addition to getting our full fare back as OBC. And we're sailing in an upgraded cabin (full suite!!) for this cruise as well as the second "free" cruise to Alaska later in 2019. It's a super deal if you have flexibility.
