drlee Posted May 20, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2018 Our cruise on the Prinsendam this summer stops twice in Edinburgh, showing Rosyth as the port. I can't find any information on how to get easily from the cruise terminal/ship to the town of Edinburgh. I want to visit the main headquarters of the Scotch Malt Whiskey Association, on Queens street. Does the ship offer shuttles, paid or free, to get into Edinburgh, or must we use Uber/Taxi or buses? The Tatoo is being held during our second visit, so we want to avoid the crowds associated with that. Thanks for any input.
Rare rafinmd Posted May 20, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 20, 2018 When I was there HAL (or the port) ran a free shuttle to a local train station where it was ;about a 20-minute ride to Edinburgh. Roy
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted May 20, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 20, 2018 When I was there HAL (or the port) ran a free shuttle to a local train station where it was ;about a 20-minute ride to Edinburgh. Roy That was the case in both 2016 and 2017. There are actually two shuttles, one to the port terminal building and one to the Inverkeithing train station. The train goes to Edinburgh Waverly station. From there you can get a local bus, taxi or the Ho-Ho. The trains run frequently. As a side note, if the train is coming before you can purchase your ticket, either at a kiosk or from the ticket agent, get on the train. You can either purchase your ticket on the train or in Waverly station before you exit the platform through the turnstile. We’ve done that several times. This is the easiest way to get into Edinburgh.
aliaschief Posted May 20, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 20, 2018 Our Prisendam Cruise last August also had complimentary shuttle service too Edinburgh. Great city and fantastic Whisky!
OlsSalt Posted May 20, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2018 We hiked uphill from the dock to the local metro train station that went into the city. Two ways to get to the metro station on your own. You can wind your way though the streets of the little town to get uphill to the metro link station, or turn left when you reach the main street across from the dock and look for the path to your right to hike uphill through the woods on a path and stairs, that takes you more directly to the metro train station itself. If you google this, you can see it on a map.
