Is there a way to avoid hot deck surfaces?

Recommended Posts

To me, it's as silly as someone filing a lawsuit because they get a sunburn. For the majority of people, it should be common sense that if it hurts, you shouldn't continue standing on the hot surface.

Except that person involved in this case couldn't feel it hurted.

I saw those on Amazon. Have you worn them yet? If so, do you like them?

Yes, my son and I have a pair. We both wore them in Orlando to the beach this past spring break. The “ shoe” part is cloth and has a slipper like sole which will help if the ground is hot. Very cool colors and they do not look like typical swim shoes.

Yes, my son and I got these. We got some really bright colors and they really look nice and do the job very well. We also do the water park in the summer and need them there as the ground is super hot and sometimes while standing in line the sun is beating down on the ground. We are in Texas where it is very hot.

Actually...you're not supposed to wear water shoes with grippy bits on the bottom on the slides. We were told by several Carnival employees and a cruise director that the reason you're not supposed to wear them is because your feet could get stuck on the side of the slide and cause all sorts of problems for you. :( And that's not fun.

I agree with this, besides, it’s hard to slide with water shoes on breaking your fall. With that said, we always wear the shoes and then either throw them down the slide in front of you or hold them across your chest. A lot of slides will have you lying down with your arms folded in front of you, on the cruise ship. Now for the water park, if we wear our water shoes we will either tuck them into the front of our swimsuit or hold them in our hands to slide. Worse case, sit them by the bottom of the slide and get them when you get off, in this scenario, you might have a time getting to a cool spot on the ground. Sometimes the steps are hot also.

This got me thinking after somebody mentioned a lawsuit against Celebrity (and it turns out, there are/were several against other cruise lines, including CCL, as well) where a passenger burned the skin off his feet just by walking a few feet barefoot across a hot deck surface to the pool.

The few times I've had to walk from the pool to our lounger barefoot (because I forgot to park my flip flops next to the pool), I've been surprised at how hot the deck surface is. And I see kids running across the deck barefoot ALL THE TIME.

I mean..I'm not an architect or an engineer or a materials specialist, but I'm curious. Is there any material they could use instead that doesn't get so flippin' hot?

Try an Alaskan cruise.
