CozGurl Posted June 5, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2018 Going on a Caribbean cruise in January and I'm looking for input on the following ports. We're snorkeling in Bonaire, Curacao and Tortola. Will any of the following ports be as good for snorkeling as the above or should we look for other things to do? Grenada Barbados St Lucia Antigua St Martin Thanks for any help. The ports of call boards are so slow!
Clarea Posted June 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 5, 2018 I think the best snorkeling of all the ports listed will be at Bonaire.
PAcruiser19372 Posted June 5, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 5, 2018 From my experience you're already snorkeling in 3 of the best ports with Bonaire being the best. You can add Barbados to the list, especially with the chance to snorkel with the turtles. Some people rave about St. Lucia, I've only snorkeled there a couple of times and while they were OK, did not surpass the other ports and was just there in April and had multiple encounters with jelly fish! SECdawg Posted June 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 5, 2018 I would recommend St. Lucia. We snorkeled under the pitons and it was like swimming in am aquarium, Maybe we just got lucky. I agree that Bonaire is the best.
Laurin612 Posted June 5, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 5, 2018 Barbados had good snorkeling but I don't think it will compare with Tortola or Bonaire. I've snorkeled in Tortola and it was my favorite snorkeling experience ever. Crystal clear water, a wide variety of corals, anemones and fish. Simply awesome! Snorkeling in St. Lucia was OK, but nothing special, in my opinion. My worst snorkeling experiences have been Jamaica and St. Maarten so I can't recommend St. Maarten for snorkeling. Both had rough water and low visibility. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Keksie Posted June 5, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 5, 2018 We snorkeled in St. Lucia and it was one of my favorites. We saw two pairs of squid tending to their babies, a large school of blue tang and many other fish as well.
CozGurl Posted June 6, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted June 6, 2018 Thanks for the replies. We've snorkeled in Cozumel, Roatan and Belize. Looking for as good or better snorkeling. Don't want to waste money on snorkeling a subpar place when we could do a rum tour or something ;p Keksie, may I ask where you're comparing St Lucia to? fredflint Posted June 6, 2018 #8 Share Posted June 6, 2018 Bonaire has great snorkeling and really not much else other than water sports. Barbados has a great wildlife preserve https://barbados.org/reserve.htm#.WxdJ0-7RXX4
