Upsell offer

I don't believe it. After cruising on Carnival since 1999, we finally got an upsell offer. A suite 7381, Deck 7, Middle for $416 more. We are currently booked on the Panorama Deck in a balcony next to my brother and SIL. Had we been cruising alone we probably would have tried it just to see what they are like.

I had a few in the past year and turned them down as well.

I got an offer today as well. I was so excited because I’ve never been offered an upgrade. I was so excited because the way the email was worded made it seem like I “qualified” for something special! It was an offer to upgrade to an ocean suite from the balcony I have booked in Jan. But when I went in and checked pricing the “offer” was only $9 less than if I just went and booked the ocean suite right now. Doesn’t seem like much of a deal! If I had wanted to pay for a suite I would have picked that from the beginning. This $9 off is almost laughable.

Think a coincidence of timing of these upsell offers just after Carnival announced they lowered their guidance on earnings for the year?

I got an upsell offer too for our June 2019 cruise. From a regular balcony on 8th deck to regular balcony on 11th deck for $30. Not worth it. The other option was for a spa balcony for $150 more. We don't use the spa, so not worth it either. We have had offers on our last two booked cruises and took the last one for a regular balcony to an extended balcony for $14.

Just curious - how do you check for price drops once you accept an upsell offer? I feel like this is just a way for CCL to avoid dealing with price drops.

We have received 2 upgrade offers on our 14 day on the Breeze in Nov. We have a cove balcony, which we booked on purpose, we love being that close to the water. The first was in Jan. for a balcony on deck 11 for $50. The second was in April for a balcony on deck 8 for $30. Not bad deals really, but with 5 sea days on this cruise, we are happy with the room we chose and to be able to relax and listen to the ship cut thru the sea.

I had a friend who got an upsell offer yesterday for our cruise in January, from a balcony to a suite. The additional cost was $2136, which I believe came out at about $1300 less than if she booked the suite outright. Thought right now the suite prices are way higher than they were the last time we did a cruise on this same ship.

Hmm... Are you including the initial cost of suite in your calculations? Not sure which suite was offered, but $2136 upgrade plus a guess of $1500 originally paid would be total of $3636, so seems like you could book suite right now for that price.

Whoops, my math was a little off. The savings would have been $772 over booking the suite today. The total price of a suite (Before taxes) is $5596.00, the upgrade offer was $2136. You aren't getting that suite today anywhere near $3636.

My current casino rate for the same cabin is $4894 before taxes.

Without knowing specifics on ship, date, duration and current level of stateroom I was just taking a random guess on cost. My upsell offer was basically same cost difference if I were to book today.

Mine was an email. We turned it down mainly because we have a cabin booked next to my brother and SIL. Come to find out, they got an offer for an ocean suite too and turned it down.

I did some checking and saw that an ocean suite isn't much better than a regular cabin. That tub wasn't worth $416 and other than that, it had a little more floor space.

Holy wow! Yesterday must have been upsell day at Carnival. We got an offer too...for our May 18, 2019 sailing on Conquest. From a balcony room (7411) on deck 7 (which we got through a previous upsell offer) to a balcony room on deck 10 (1066). We took a look at the deck plans and other than 1066 being a little more mid-ship than our current room, we couldn't see how it would be much better. The price was $56.00...but we're in Canada so with the current exchange rate (ouch), it would have been closer to $75.00 for us...we turned it down.

So that is two offers we have received from them on a cruise that is almost a year away...seems odd but I'm not complaining...this is only our 2nd Carnival cruise.

I have received two offers on my January 19 cruise, one was an email the other a phone call. My issue with the upsell so far out is them wanting the additional cost right away, rather than adding it to the cruise fare and paying when final payment was due.

My first offer on the balcony I might have done but it was like 4 months ago, and it wanted the extra $600 right then, which I wasn't prepared to pay. At the time the balcony was a little more, but then I have casino offers that ended up making our cabin less. So for now I guess we will stick with our inside cabin with the french doors. Though I keep watching the Vista suite, if their price wasn't so utterly ridiculous right now I would have booked one a long time ago. They are almost 3 times higher than the price I paid in 2016, and the cruise is only 3 days longer.

Carnival just announced that they were lowering their gudance on earnings for the year, so this seems it may be a way for them to put more $$ to their bottom line.

I just got an email from my Sister In Law. Their offer was for the same ocean suite that they offered us. (7381). Wonder what would have happened if we both decided we wanted that suite at the same time.

I just did some checking to see exactly what the offer was. Our Balcony cabin on Deck 11 (Horizon) was $3116. I can book 7381 right now for $3578. They wanted $416 for the upsell. $3116+416=$3532. SoooooooThat great deal would save me $46.

You can choose from various rooms, or at least my offers have. I could also choose different decks. The room they offer is just their suggestion, when you went to book you wouldn't have been able to book if it was already sold.
