Fouremco Posted August 6, 2018 #51 Share Posted August 6, 2018 I find this information about the ship's dedication from Coastal Living to be odd. I wonder how accurate the article is. Breaking the silence from the Corporate Offices in Seattle would be most helpful as to informing those of us who are interested. It seems to jibe with the related information in the June 12 Holland America Blog: Holland America Line and O, The Oprah Magazine announced today a three-day Girls’ Getaway cruise on Holland America Line’s newest ship, Nieuw Statendam, Jan. 30, 2019. Oprah Winfrey will embark on the cruise, joined by O, The Oprah Magazine Editor-at-Large Gayle King and other members of the magazine’s editorial staff, who will host special presentations and events on board the ship, currently under construction at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard in Italy. Winfrey will serve as godmother of Nieuw Statendam, with an official dedication by Winfrey to take place in a private ceremony at a later date to be announced. sail7seas Posted August 6, 2018 Author #52 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Thanks for the info. I am still a little 'itchy' that ship will sail with paying guests before it is christened. I Don't like that.

Well, unless she's coming to Rome, it looks like we paying passengers (guests?) will be sailing sans christening. No, Sail7, I don't think we've met. rkacruiser Posted August 6, 2018 #54 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Thanks for the info. I am still a little 'itchy' that ship will sail with paying guests before it is christened. I Don't like that. As I said in a prior post, such a christening is odd in my opinion, Will such affect my enjoyment of the two early cruises that I have booked? No. But, it is another "break from tradition", I think. No. But, it is another "break from tradition", I think. The same thing happened with the Koningsdam. Her first cruise was in early April 2016 but the christening wasn't held until late May. Both Signature Class ships her were christened before their maiden cruises, as were, I believe, all earlier additions to the fleet. Why HAL has decided to break from tradition with the Pinnacle Class is anybody's guess.
sail7seas Posted August 7, 2018 Author #57 Share Posted August 7, 2018 The Vista class ships were all christened before they sailed with paying guests aboard as is the usual tradition. ,
