Pride of Aloha questions

Hi Cruisers,

My friends and I will be aboard the POA, in December, 06. I have some questions for you.

1. Has there been an improvement in food and service recently.

2. How long will the ship be in Maui? Dock or Tender? I have a friend who lives on this Island.

3. What can I expect for December weather?

4. How reliable are the dockside tour operators to return us to the ship in time for sailing? Is there much of a savings in comparison to ships tours?

Thank you,

Barb

Hi Cruisers,

My friends and I will be aboard the POA, in December, 06. I have some questions for you.

1. Has there been an improvement in food and service recently.

We were just on the Pride and had a great time. Service was

very good, and the food was just fine. There are always

people who complain about things, but we found both

the main dining, buffet, and Pacific Heights to be quite

good.

2. How long will the ship be in Maui? Dock or Tender? I have a friend who lives on this Island.

Arrives early Friday morning, leaves about 1800 Saturday night. Plenty

of time to enjoy our beautiful island. Arrives at the

Kahului dock. They can meet you at the chain link fence

along the road near the pier. There is a small parking lot

across the road from the pier.

3. What can I expect for December weather?

We have been having lovely weather. A little rain in

the morning, cool evenings. The seas are full of

swells from the far north, so surf is UP, but the

ship may rock a little between islands. This

"forecast" will probably work for December 06. :)

Thank you,

Barb

Have a great cruise!

Thank you so much. Do you recommend the ship's shore excursions, or the dock-side ones?

Barb

This subject generates vast amounts of discussion on these

boards. You can get along much more cheaply by

booking activities directly on the island, rather than

using the ship. The primary "negative" is the chance

of having trouble while out on an excursion and missing

the departure of the ship.

A lot of tourists rent cars on Maui and take themselves

to the sights that interest them the most. Your approach really

depends on what your interests are, and how much you want to

take yourself, vs letting someone else "do the driving".

Leaving on Jan 21 Pride of Aloha first stop is Honollulu anybody know what the name of the port the ship docks in?

Jimmy:)

Sounds like you are leaving from our fair isle Maui. You leave

from Kahului harbor (near the airport). The next stop

is Honolulu main pier. It is located at the Aloha Tower.

You will be "downtown" an easy walk to Chinatown.

After that, if I recall, Nawiliwili which is the

main port of Kaua'i. Next stop, Hilo on

Hawai'i (the big island). After an evening

pass by the flowing lava, your next stop

is Kona (west side of Hawai'i). Finally,

you glide into Maui early Friday

morning (beautiful sunrises!).

Hope this helps.
