Best port you've visited

Recommended Posts

Tortola, and Antigua were great. But as I tell my DW right now my favorite is Maui, cause it is next.

Tortola is my all-time favorite. It was hit really hard by the hurricanes last year, but they are rebuilding. We spent one of the best days ever at Jost Van Dyke White Bay. The Soggy Dollar Bar kept the Painkillers flowing, and it was beautiful watching all of the boats cruise in during the course of the day. Our excursion boat was tied off to a palm tree! Carnival doesn't sail there very often, but I will probably book a future cruise based solely on the fact that it stops in Tortola.

Let's see, here are some ports that I liked so much, I went back for land vacations:

St Thomas, St Maarten, Roatan, Belize, Montego Bay, Panama, Costa Rica.

Here are some ports that I liked when we did did land vacations first and returned to later on a cruise:

Grenada, Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, Aruba.

I liked many Alaskan and Med ports but they were probably one time only stops.

Hands down the best beach I have ever been to is Half Moon Cay. Cabanas for a small group or a Villa for a larger one really enhances the experience.

If you can find an itinerary that includes Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk, San Juan, and St. Thomas, that could be a great beach lovers vacation. Half Moon is simply amazing. Grand Turk has a great beach directly off the ship and a Margaritaville with surf simulator right there. San Juan does not have a lot of beaches nearby, but is one of the most interesting ports from a historical prespective. St. Thomas has a lot of nice beaches, and you can also take a ferry over to St. John.

That would be my recommendation.

I've not yet been to Aruba or Curacao, but hope to in September, so perhaps one of those will become my favorite. But right now, of the ports I've visited, my favorite is San Juan (note* haven't been there since it was devastated last year). I love Old San Juan! It just looks and feels so historical and genuine. I hear it has made a good comeback. My favorites change from time to time, as the new wears off. Just behind San Juan, are the saints, St. Thomas, St. Maarten. Cozumel is great too.

I have heard San Juan is still pretty devastated.
