Norwegian Escape 7/1/18 - My review with pics

No envy from me for herding 22 people! And sorry you did not know the drink package requires gratuities as a charge but it's still a great perk. Enjoyed reading your review and hearing your views. I do enjoy the buffet but do get tired of the same food so enjoy the specialties and dining rooms too. Rarely had bad food on NCL. Enjoyed your story of winning at trivia and following all your shipboard activities.

Curious... how many were in your brother's cabin? Never had trouble storing my suitcases under the bed and in the bottom of the closet.. plenty of room unless he didn't understand how to get them under the bed, or had about 8 suitcases maybe!

He had 4 people in the cabin. And they only had 4 pieces of luggage.

Fair enough..you had a big group. I think that would complicate matters...I know it would to me..like herding cats.

The Bride and I were on the Escape in April out of Miami. We had one 5 minute rain shower the entire cruise. I know that helped with everything.

As to the tips on the drink package, I have a hard time understanding anyone's issue..18 bucks a day for alcoholic drinks is quite the bargain..and no slips to sign, no tip to figure..although a buck or two here always helped.

You did good with the pics too, this being your first rodeo...good work.

Thanks. It took a little time for me to figure out how to inset the pictures, but once I got it it was just taking to time to put it all in the posts.

In my opinion there were more cons than pros.

Pros

Cabin was large and spacious

Drink package was worth it

Aras (from Croatia, sorry if I misspelled his name) from Cruise Staffwas great, great personality, fun to be around and he would always talk to us when he saw us around the ship

O’Sheehans – food was always good

My kids really enjoyed Splash Academy and Entourage

The ship is beautiful and clean

Cons

Food was not good unless you paid extra for a specialtyrestaurant (IMO)

Needed reservations for everything (restaurants, shows)

They did not allow gratuities to be removed from youraccount until the last day

Elevators are nearly impossible to get on, especially earlyon in the cruise

In cabin TV selection is horrible

Iconcierge app was horrible

Ship is very large and packed and you feel it. Crowded everywhere you went.

Casino was awkwardly positioned, not in its own room. Slot machines lined the hallways and youcould smell the smoke from anywhere close to the casino

Entertainment could have been better

So did you remove all the gratuities? If so, why did you feel it to be necessary?

Dinner tonight was at Teppanyaki. We had a reservation in advance of the cruise. This was the restaurant that my husband was looking forward to the most. We had been on Teppanyaki when we were on the Jewel a few years back. He enjoyed it then and was hoping for the same result tonight. It did not disappoint.

Dinner was delicious. My husband thinks this was the best food on the whole trip. Me, I personally liked Moderno more, but this was a close second. Tonight’s dinner took about 3 hours also. And we let the maîtred know that we were celebrating my parent’s 50th anniversary so when dessert came, the staff came over and sang to my parents, and presented my mom with a rose and cake. It was really nice.

Thanks for the detailed review! We’re going the 26th and wondering if your daughter was able to order from the kids menu in Teppanyaki? I have a picky eater 8 year old too and if not, going to cancel our reservation rather than pay for a meal he won’t eat. Thanks also for the great info about the kids activities on board, hopefully we’ll get to do some.

Teppanyaki is also a show in some ways..

Kids can order from the kids menu

However you may still get charged. In my experience it’s 50:50. Space is very limited and in some ways the food prep is a show... I would check when you board and cancel the reservation then if the answer isn’t favourable.

Heard that there are cannolis on the ship:D:p:D If so, where can you find them and is there any additional cost???

Are the vegetables bearly cooked? We had that problem on the Gem and had to send food back due to poor preparation. Manhattan Room was the worse for service and strange looking food, i.e., lasagna had a noodle on top of chunks of meat. Breakaway had slivers of vegetables or as the Maitre'd said "garnish".
