Celebrity Sky Suite vs. MSC Royal Suite Yacht Club

Hi - my BFF and I are looking at our next big vaca together 2020 Northern Europe (we take big trips every 4 years or so, just us no Hubbies).

She has sailed in a Sky Suite on Celebrity (only line I have never done) and I am about to sail my first MSC Cruise in the Yacht Club soon with family.

Because she is familiar with Celebrity she wants to sail them again - I think yacht club will be great and I'm pushing for MSC. Also, even if we book the Royal Suite its still about $5k cheaper than the Sky Suite on Celebrity.

Has anyone sailed both and have an opinion? I know my views on MSC will be more defined after I sail them in Sept just looking for any opinions now...we have plenty of time to decide since Itineraries for 2020 aren't even out yet but I'm a planner.

TIA.

I've done both a Sky Suite and Yacht Club (not Royal Suite - you'll have great difficulty booking it. There are only 2 on the ship and are rarely offered for 2 people on European sailings).

There's no comparison as far as I'm concerned. YC far outweighs the Sky Suite experience. In fact, I'd never book a Sky Suite again (were I ever to sail Celebrity again ). I've done YC 5 times now, with 2 more booked for next year! :)

We sailed in a corner aft Sky Suite on Celebrity Reflection a few years back. Loved the room and the huge corner aft deck, but didn't get the point of the butler. He was not our room steward, and we usually only saw him when he'd bring around afternoon snacks. He was not very friendly. Back then, Celebrity had not yet created the dining room for suite guests, so we were officially assigned to the main dining room, although we were able to access Blu pretty much anytime we wanted. Our suite came with one specialty dinner, and we paid for a few additional specialty meals as well. They were first rate! Once you left your room, however, there were no extra perks just because you were in a suite.

Last year we did 10 days in the YC on Divina. It was by far the finest cruise we've ever taken (and we've cruised on many different lines). The room wasn't much bigger than a standard room (much smaller than the sky suite), but the service was unbelievable. Our butler on MSC was phenomenal. He was also our room steward, and he truly took care of us the entire time--even carried our luggage to the gangway on our last morning aboard. The greatest part of YC is that nothing is crowded. There were always seats at the pool anytime of the day--and the pool wasn't full of kids. They don't allow passengers to have drinks in the main pools on MSC, but in YC the butlers would bring us drinks and hand them to us in the water. The food was excellent, and the service in the YC dining room was outstanding. There are also very cool touches--like being escorted down a secret staircase when departing for excursions that led right to the security exit---and then having butlers waiting upon your return to whisk you back on board. I couldn't believe it when they walked us around the long tender line in Grand Cayman and put us on the next tender back to the ship. This was truly an example of "You get what you pay for."

We were so impressed that we are going again in Sept. This time we were lucky enough to score the Royal Suite! We have sailed the Celebrity Reflection three times--the first time in the Sky Suite, and twice in Aqua Class staterooms. All three cruises were wonderful, but there was something extra special about the attention to detail and service in YC on MSC. As long as they continue to offer this option at a reasonable price, I don't know why we would ever go elsewhere.

The dedicated dining room for suite guests had been introduced when we were on X. We ended up eating in the MDR the service was so bad! This is something I have never considered doing when in YC.

Another thing that pretty much shocked me was that the water in the cabin was charged on Celebrity, as was the mini-bar. These are included in YC. Also, you get the Deluxe all-inclusive drinks package with MSC's YC ... you don't automatically get a drinks package on X unless it's part of a promotion.

Could not bring drinks in to the pool on deck 19. Asked one of the butlers and they said no drinks allowed in pool. I donot know if this is fleetwide or just on seaside.
