A&Jfamily Posted July 23, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2018 We are sail on the Ruby Princess in December and if I understand correctly the pier is in San Pedro. We have a 430 pm flight out of LAX- and despite several attempts at searching on here, I cannot figure out how to spend time before going to LAX. We are a family of 4 (boys 20 and 14) and need something to do with luggage. At other ports we have either rented a car and explored or a hotel room and gone to the pool. Any suggestions for this east coast family for a few hours? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
riffatsea Posted July 24, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2018 Rent car and go to aquarium in Long Beach nearby. Go to Manhattan Beach near the airport to hang out , have a meal etc. All would be best with your own rental car with luggage stowed inside. riffatsea Posted July 26, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 26, 2018 Hi, I have not rented a car at this location. Both Hertz and Enterprise have offices near the port on 6th St. You'll have to check prices to see which is better for you. The Hertz local site mentions a pick up service but I'd call to confirm that: https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/location/unitedstates/california/sanpedro/spqc02 This link will not be live so you can just cut and paste or Google san pedro rental car to find it. It is always a good idea to join the frequent user club for either rental car company. IF you have AAA there are sometimes discounts. You can also check with Costco for discounts. Contact https://sunseekertours.com/our-tours/full-day-tour/ they have tours from Long Beach and San Pedro. They will pick you up at the pier, and drop you at the airport after the tour. Have you considered this tour of Venice Beach and Santa Monica through Princess? It offers a fair amount of time on your own, plus luggage storage and airport drop-off. https://www.princess.com/excursion/exDetails.page?t=&exType=S&tourCode=LAX-
Quilting Queen Posted July 28, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 28, 2018 A&Jfamily We always drive to San Pedro so no experience with these things. We did use Avis Car rental, but they are in San Pedro, had to take taxi to the port. We also rented from Enterprise. They have a shuttle pickup spot at dock 93, the Princess dock, very convenient. As for things to do once you have a rental car is go to Santa Monica, Redondo Beach or you can go to a museum in LA. Since you have children the Venice Beach might be more fun for them. Or you can take the ship tour. Compare the cost of car rental and tours for the family. Norine
KeepCalmBearOn Posted July 30, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2018 I would rent a car and start with the USS Iowa next door to the cruise port. Or before the cruise, check-in, leave your bags and do the USS Iowa. After the USS Iowa, visit Manhattan Beach, just south of LAX.
