Rare CruisinCrow Posted July 27, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2018 We were on the July 13 Sun cruise to the Bahamas. I just posted my review of the trip on my blog: https://susancrow.blogspot.com/2018/07/sun-and-fun-on-norwegian-sun.html It's more of a journal that a review but since there's not a lot of information about Sun out there, I thought it might be helpful. I also posted the Freestyle Dailies to give you an idea of the schedule and activities available. Here is the link: https://susancrow.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html I hope you enjoy the review. I didn't include a lot of pictures of the ship in the blog so I'll post them separately. I know a lot of people would like to see how Sun looks after the refurbishment.
Rare CruisinCrow Posted July 27, 2018 Author #2 Share Posted July 27, 2018 (edited) A few general comments: Port - Port Canaveral is my favorite port. There is plenty of parking, including covered parking right next to the terminal. It cost $68 for the 3-day cruise. Luggage - Sun has a luggage drop off for carry-on bags. It's great because you don't have to check your bags and wait hours for them to show up (or worry about them not showing up). The drop-off spot is in the Windjammer Lounge, which is the same deck that you board. They tag your bags and you can pick them up anytime before 2 o'clock. Cabin - Cabins were available about 1:30. We had a balcony cabin, which was quite a bit larger than the oceanview cabins we'd stayed in on Sky. There was plenty of storage space and I liked having a coffee maker. We've never had a coffee maker on any of our other cruises. Our cabin steward did a great job, brought ice twice a day, left towels every night and always greeted us in the hallway when we saw us. Our only complaint was the bad smell in the cabin. It smelled like there had been a water or sewer leak, which surprised me since the carpeting was brand new. It must have been a recent leak. Food - the buffet is small but it was never crowded. We liked to take our food to the Great Outdoors and eat outside, but you do have to watch out for the seagulls when the ship is in port. :) I thought the food in the main dining rooms was very good and service was fast. We never had to wait a long time between courses. Open-bar - I've already mentioned that I'm not a fan of the open-bar. You are mostly limited to the open-bar menu, which was very small. I'd rather pay a few dollars for one drink than have unlimited "free" drinks that I don't want. This cruise did seem more adult oriented than other summer cruises we've been on but I didn't think it was a "booze cruise". We didn't see any bad, drunken behavior. Great Stirrup Cay - tendering takes a long time. Plan for it. :) The Stingray City excursion was the highlight of our cruise. Debarkation - We did the self-assist debarkation which started a little before 7:30. We were off the ship, through customs and at our car by 7:45. Probably the fastest we've ever experienced. If anyone has any questions about the ship or the tours we did, I'll be glad to try to answer. Edited July 27, 2018 by CruisinCrow

Rare CruisinCrow Posted July 27, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted July 27, 2018 If anyone is looking for the main dining room menus, I found them on this site: https://eatsleepcruise.com/2017/07/guide-norwegian-sky-restaurants/ Scroll about half way down the page to the Main Dining Room section. The post is about Sky but the menus on Sun were exactly the same. For the 3-day cruise, the menus matched the ones for Night 1, Night 2 and Night 4. Thanks for this - we are on the Sun in a couple of weeks and really haven't found in-depth info about it other than the standard Cruise Critic photo page.
