dbregman Posted August 1, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2018 (edited) Here is my question. It appears that the embarkation is the day before an early departure (see below) from Monte Carlo. We want time to tour Monte Carlo. It it likely we can either board then dis-embark to check out the city, or drop our luggage and at the ship and then tour? Or are there other suggestions? You can tour Monte Carlo before and after your embarkation. To avoid lines embark a little after your indicated embarkation time and enjoy a morning in MC.Not sure if, when and where you can drop your luggage. If you are arriving the day of embarkation you can leave your luggage in lockers at the train station, then go exploring until mid afternoon, retrieve the luggage then check in at the ship, then keep going around town. Take a taxi up to the Palace then slowly walk back down the hill through town to the harbour. Wonderful views of the harbour and Palace from the terrace behind the Casino. Even better if you can arrive the day before embarkation to really see it all.
Sea42 Posted August 2, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 2, 2018 There is also a very nice botanical garden at the top of the hill with wonderful views!
Cliff-FLL Posted August 9, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 9, 2018 We sailed out of Monte Carlo a couple of months ago and, from what I could tell, there would be nothing to preclude you from arriving at the new pier, dropping your luggage, and then heading back into town in the same taxi. I don't know the hours that the staff would continue to be there to check in arriving guests but you could step inside and ask. Once you've checked in - whether it's at the time you drop your luggage or at a later time - you're free to depart the ship, explore the port, and return at some point before "all aboard". We've been in other ports for more than one day and never encountered restrictions in leaving & returning to the ship.
babysteps Posted August 9, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 9, 2018 When there is an overnight at the beginning of the cruise, the respective port authority may not staff *initial* check-in facilities overnight. I know a few years ago in Barcelona the concierge was concerned about guests who had not yet checked in the first evening as the port check-in hall was about to close for the night...doesn't usually impact in-and-out privileges as far as I can tell. LaCroisiereS'amuse Posted August 9, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 9, 2018 I'm on this sailing too, and checked with Oceania UK about check in. It took them a while to get back to me but the agent told me we could check in and board any time before midnight.....we're catching a train from Milan that gets into Monaco just before 4 pm, and can't be bothered with the 1100 rush to board. Leisurely is the way forward!
