Rare westcoasttech Posted August 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2018 Way, way in the future, but starting a thread on the slight chance that someone else out there also booked the April 11, 2020 Pitcairn Island voyage on the Aranui 5. A short time ago I stumbled on the Aranui 5 website. Having sailed on Princess from Tahiti in 2003, I've always wanted to go back to the area, but find something a little "different". When I saw the Pitcairn voyage, I couldn't resist putting myself on the waiting list - I would have probably booked the 2019 trip if it had been available, but I was way too late for that party! It's a little bit of a case of "be careful what you wish for" as I really didn't expect to be able to get a cabin, especially if they only have the one trip in 2020. But surprise, surprise, I've got a cabin, at least I have a year and a half to pay for it! I will be carefully watching for any reports from the 2019 trips! cjcruiser27 Posted August 17, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 17, 2018 Sounds awesome and something to look forward to[emoji3] I have read some reviews on that ship and it sounds like a great itinerary, like you say “something different”. I would love to go! Are you going solo? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Oak Hill Cruisers Posted August 17, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 17, 2018 We too would like to see some reviews. This one is on our bucket list.
Rare westcoasttech Posted August 19, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted August 19, 2018 Yes, going solo. They "only" charge a 50% solo supplement (so it's a bargain [joking!]). But I figure it's similar to some of the higher end cruise lines in that you get wine with meals and some tours included, and not many people on the ship, and anything that is limited supply is going to be priced higher. However I have just been advised by the booking agency that the dates may change for the 2020 Pitcairn trip due to planned time in dry dock - a little concerning that they didn't figure this out BEFORE they put the voyage on sale to the public, but it is a long way off, so I haven't made any plans that joined up to it, yet ... When booking cruises on cargo ships or non-traditional pax vessels you need to be flexible with dates. Many things can and do change, especially when working cargo.

Annalucia Posted September 10, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 10, 2018 Hello Cool Cruiser, Would you mind telling me where you booked the Aranui 2020 cruise to Pitcairn etc? I have tried to do this, but was told bookings are not open yet. Cheers Annalucia

I have tried to do this, but was told bookings are not open yet. Cheers Annalucia Hi Annalucia, I'm the OP to this thread and happy to give you the information I used. I had signed up on the Aranui 5 website as interested in the 2020 Pitcairn trip - there used to be a link right on their opening page, but I just checked and it's no longer there (perhaps they have taken that down until they confirm the revised dates). I received an email from them a few weeks later with the pricing and details, but ended up making the booking through a travel agent (as the TA would take a credit card and the Aranui 5 company would not take a CC payment but wanted bank draft or electronic transfer.) I know I'm not allowed to name TAs on CruiseCritic, but if you Google Aranui5, it should come up towards in the first few options (hint: it is a Canadian west coast based TA (which is where I'm located) and has "and away" in its name - hope that's not giving too much information!). I'm still waiting to hear the revised dates, but the deposit payment has been processed, so am hoping I still have a cabin onboard whenever it ends up sailing! Good luck! Annalucia Posted September 11, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 11, 2018 Hi Westcoasttech, Thanks for this info. I have by now found out that the dates are not yet set, but have an Australian TA specialising in expedition cruises keep an eye out for them. I have an inkling that there is going to be more than one cruise, maybe at the cost of the regular cruises to the Marquesas Islands. Perhaps the company wants to wait and see how the 2019 cruises to Pitcairn go. Cheers Annalucia
cruisefun27 Posted September 15, 2018 #10 Share Posted September 15, 2018 I’m on the first cruise to the Pitcairn Islands. 3 months 3weeks away. We were lucky enough to get the same cabin that we had on our first trip on the Aranui. Getting real excited. This will be our 7 trip to the South Pacific. One land trip, 4 trips on the Paul Gauguin ship and this will be our second time on the Aranui. I will try to do a review when we get back. cruisefun27 Posted September 15, 2018 #11 Share Posted September 15, 2018 Annalucia if you go that website they have a phone number you can call. The price for these trips are 15% more then their regular trips. If you want to do this trip don’t wait it will sell out very fast. The last one sold out in a week. cruisefun27 Posted September 16, 2018 #13 Share Posted September 16, 2018 That’s true as of now it’s April 11,2020 but if it goes to dry dock it could change. Annalucia Posted September 17, 2018 #16 Share Posted September 17, 2018 No luck until dates are confirmed, which might be in October. If you are looking for a freighter cruise with a difference, though not in March, try the Northern Ranger up the coast of Labrador.

cruisefun27 Posted September 18, 2018 #19 Share Posted September 18, 2018 Which itinerary is better, with PG or Aranui?? Which is better? They are both wonderful in very different ways. The PG has a fantastic crew and drinks are included. The Aranui is more lay back, wine is included with lunch and dinner. Shore excursions are included. On the Aranui the crew is your entertainment. We have been on the PG 4 times going to different groups of islands and in January it will be our second time on the Aranui. You will see amazing things on both ships. You will have to just do both of them yourself. Happy Cruising! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
ilikeanswers Posted October 16, 2018 #20 Share Posted October 16, 2018 I hope anyone going on the Aranui Pitcairn trip does a review or trip report. I would love to know more this trip😃. I was on the Marquesas cruise and talking to one of the guides she told me they were going to reduce the Marquesas cruise by one day (the day they repeat two islands) add an extra Marquesas cruise while doing two Pitcairn cruises. Booking far ahead is a must with Aranui though I have to admit 2020 does seem a little extreme🙀 If looking for a reduction in single supplement one could consider the dormitory rooms. We met a lot of single cruisers on Aranui and the ones who stayed in the dormitories said they were very nice. They were certainly in high demand. bjbear Posted February 9, 2019 #23 Share Posted February 9, 2019 Hi, I'm interested in the Aranui 5 cruises. No nothing about them but sounds "different" and fantastic. What is the difference between the Marquesas cruise and the Pitcairn cruise? I'm also cruising solo and liked what Westcoasttech said about only a 50% single supplement, does this apply to the balcony cabins and the Pitcairn cruise? I'm going to call the number and get some info but wanted to ask those of you that had been on this cruise. Thanks so much, Sue
Annalucia Posted February 9, 2019 #24 Share Posted February 9, 2019 Hi Sue, The Aranui cruises are indeed different. Have a look at this link for the Marquesas Islands: https://aranui.com/itinerary-marquesas-islands and this for Pitcairn: https://aranui.com/pitcairn-cruise. If you google "Aranui Cruise Cost" you will find a few websites that have all the information on cabins. The Aranui visits the Marquesas Islands on a regular basis, Pitcairn is more of a one-off and I believe is booked out for this year and next year. I suspect the Marquesas Islands cruise offers a greater cruise experience overall, but I won't know for sure until I have been to Pitcairn. Cheers Annalucia
Ann Daly Posted February 9, 2019 #25 Share Posted February 9, 2019 I've done the Marquesas Cruise on Aranui 3 and it was wonderful - highly recommend it. See photos here https://flic.kr/s/aHskcBynUs I'm currently deciding whether to book the Pitcairn cruise for next April. I have a room held and need to decide in the next few days. Its a lot of money but I guess its something I'll only do once.
