Pam Posted August 22, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 22, 2018 My experience on the other ships was there was also a 3-card poker table.
Travelcat2 Posted August 22, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 22, 2018 Agree that the casino is closed a lot of the time. By law they are closed when the ship is in port and is open while it is at sea. However, on most cruises, the casino is fairly dead. This is not a big draw for luxury cruisers. They have regular casino tables (Black Jack, craps, etc.) and sometimes it can be active but I wouldn't count on it. I suspect that the lack of interest has to do with most states having "Indian" casinos. Note: I use the term "Indian" because that is what is used in Washington state. While not necessary politically correct, it is what it is.

He prefers blackjack. It was difficult to get a seat at the table. Yes, they only had one. They did allow people standing to place their bet on a seated players hand. We spent many enjoyable nights in the casino. My opinion is, if you want to gamble, they will open for you. And, that opinion goes for any luxury cruise line. We have cruised on most of them and the casinos have always accommodated the players. Also, we live within 15 minutes of Harrah's, Hollywood, and other major casinos. Having access to casinos at home makes you want to gamble at sea.
Linda VH Posted August 22, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2018 Explorer casino was pretty busy when we were on - we are "casino rats" lol! Yes they have 3 card poker.
Travelcat2 Posted August 22, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 22, 2018 It is interesting to hear from people that actually use the casino. It always seems empty to me (except Explorer because of the placement of the casino - it can tempt people since you walk by it to get to CR.). HazmatGuy Posted August 22, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted August 22, 2018 Thanks to all. The main question that I had was whether there was a three card poker table so I can get an idea as to how much spare cash to bring. We are traveling with others, so getting enough people to the table when the casino is open, may not be a problem. Thanks again HazmatGuy
Linda VH Posted August 26, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 26, 2018 I have played 3 card with a full table, half table and just me and the dealer.
petlover Posted August 28, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 28, 2018 It seems that the cruises we have been on the casino has at least a fair amount of action and sometimes it's really busy. There's 3 card poker for sure and we've had quite a few Texas Hold'm tournaments. Those are usually by request ,on a sea day but when they have them and print them in Passages, there's been a good turn out.
HazmatGuy Posted August 28, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted August 28, 2018 That has also been my experience on RSSC. Just never sailed on Explorer before. Thanks to all for the advise and input. DD:D
nanook21 Posted August 29, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 29, 2018 Yes, they usually have a 3-card Texas Hold’em table (my favorite) plus the usual blackjack. My DH prefers craps or full poker when they do a tournament. Sometimes it’s fairly empty, other times it’s packed, you never know. We like to go in for an hour or so after dinner, just for fun, if we’re not going to a show. I’m trying to remember, but I think we were able to buy chips at the casino cashier desk with our onboard account, but we did always have cash with us too. Even won a few times! BBfromCA Posted August 29, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 29, 2018 They also will offer a Texas Hold 'em Tournament on sea day afternoons, provided they get enough passengers to sign up.
