diesel1973 Posted October 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2018 Am looking at a land tour in Thailand and it seems like Jan. is the best month to go as the tours are sold out for that month. After looking at the average temps. and rainfall it looks like Dec. is similar to Jan. but those tours are not sold out. Is there something I am missing or would I be OK to go in Dec.? Thanks for any suggestions.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
iancal Posted October 3, 2018 #2 Share Posted October 3, 2018 (edited) Don't know where in Thailand you are going. The weather can be very different depending north or south, east or west coast. We typically spend mid January to mid March in Thailand. Our host in Ko Lanta (south of Phuket) claims that they are experiencing more rain in January than in past years. The earliest we have gone is Dec 31 and we have always missed the rain no matter where we happened to be. If we were deciding, we would decline a December tour in favour of January. As an aside, one of the best airfares we had was one with a Dec 31 departure from North America. We think mid Jan through Feb and mid March are the best times to go. This year, for us, it is Jan 21. It starts to get much warmer in Mid March. We love Thailand. This will be our fourth winter there in six years. One thing you need to be cognizant of is Chinese New Year. This can be a very busy tourist time. Edited October 3, 2018 by iancal
diesel1973 Posted October 4, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted October 4, 2018 Thanks for the info. We would be visiting 6 cities. Did not realize there was such a difference in weather in various cities in Thailand. Will probably wait till 2020 and do Jan.
