Off the Oasis (third time aboard)

Recommended Posts

We consider it our "touristic home". Our favorite private beach club was all booked (months in advance) so we headed bright and early to our favorite semi-private beach (Palancar). We had the beach more or less to ourselves for about 2 hours, then around 10 am local time the hoards began to arrive in force.

I've not seen any reference to Palancar before, I love learning new things by reading other's reviews. Short taxi ride to and from?

Question for the OP, or anyone who cares to answer, since this was your third time on the same ship, did you feel the need to go to the shows every night?

To me, that might depend on how the shows went for you the first time. On our first time on Allure, I really looked forward to Blue Planet where they bring out the rock-formation/Trampoline. I had seen youtube videos of it and was anxiously awaiting seeing it for myself. That first cruise in 2011, they brought it out and didn't use it, so I was happy to see in 2013 they used it and I loved that part of the show.

For the Aquatheater show, I loved seeing it from the main audience section on deck 6, but we decided to watch it (2013) from the deck 12 balcony, which was a public balcony at that time. It was great watching the divers from that vantage point and you could see some behind the scenes stuff going on under the water. Those balconies are now suites, but I think maybe there is still a public balcony on one of the other decks? It's been almost 900 days since I last walked on this class, so I have to brush up on that fact, but we will be with two Oasis class newbies on Symphony so we will probably go with them and sit in the main part of that audience.

About 5 minutes past Mr. Sanchos/Nachi, which both are about 10-ish minutes from Royal port. So about a 15-ish minute ride w/o traffic. With traffic could easily take 45 minutes, which is why you have got to put the effort to be up bright and early and be among the first to disembark. It costs $25 each way for up to 4 people (this includes kids and babies in laps), and then $5 each person after that. The corollary here is: if by chance/bad luck your ship doesn't dock until 10am local time or later, just don't bother with beach breaks and instead go for a tour of the southern tip of the island and maybe stop for a snack/drink at Mr. Sancho's in the way back.

I don't think it has anything to do with age and more about what type of experience you/your family is looking for. We've been to Playa Mia and Mr. Sanchos and it was a bit too much for us. Lots of kids and teens activities and competitions going on, lots of water jungle gyms, slides, etc. But decidedly not chill or relaxing. Nachi, on the other hand, it's very chill (but please don't confuse with boring! It's quite nice and fun, too), music is well under control, being overly loud, profanity and indecency are grounds for dismissal and in our three times there, we've seen two groups being escorted out by management -- so they keep their word. The service and the food are excellent. The "open bar" is truly open and you can request anything they have available (say you're nuts and want a quadruple-shot marge, go for it), that having been said, they will refuse to serve any alcohol to anyone they deem drunk or visibly impaired. Overall, in my experience, if you want a relaxing and fun day at the beach in Cozumel and are willing to pay the premium, you just can't do better than Nachi Cocom.

And is exactly what I mentioned in my post, but you stated it well. We have been there over a dozen times, and have two more booked...we are just a tad familiar with Nachi...but thanks for the description for others that are reading. ;)
