gakawgirl Posted October 17, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 17, 2018 do I need to purchase a WiFi package while cruising and visiting the islands of Aruba, Curacao, and Grand Turk? should I be able to at least take pictures with my phone or should I take a camera? thinfool Posted October 17, 2018 #2 Share Posted October 17, 2018 (edited) Your phone will be fine as a camera. Cell calls can be expensive while onboard a ship ($2.50-5.99/min), tho there is package pricing available in some cases. Check with your cell carrier. Otherwise, purchasing an onboard internet package will allow you to make internet based calls if your phone is setup to do that. While onshore your cell carrier (ATT, Verizon) may have a non-US rate, but you need to check with your carrier. Few discount carriers offer any service in foreign countries (Cricket, Boost, etc) Edited October 17, 2018 by thinfool
Heidi13 Posted October 17, 2018 #3 Share Posted October 17, 2018 Both of these questions depend on your personal preferences. Your phone will take reasonable pictures under normal lighting, but only you can decide on the quality. Personally, I only use a camera. For wifi, very few companies provide complimentary wi-fi. If you want connectivity while on your cruise, a wifi package is recommended. You can find free hotspots ashore (follow the crew), but that uses valuable time in port.
