When used as a deposit , is a future cruise certificate considered as a refundable deposit?

most of them are, but if you use it to book a non refundable booking you may lose it.  The only way around that is to just keep the deposit moving around into future bookings

It is the same as the conditions for the booking. If your booking has a refundable deposit then the FCD is placed back into your account if you cancel before the deadline. If your booking has a non-refundable deposit then you lose the $100 if you cancel. Sometimes if you cancel a booking with a non-refundable deposit and then re-book at the same time the T.A. can arrange for you to not lose the deposit. It has happened.

If you do not use the FCD in two years, Princess will refund the money.  I have heard that you can request a short extension but I use my FCDs long before the two year life.
