upgrade ? w/ gty cabin

Okay, we received our docs today from our TA, and everything is in order. Yahoo!!

One question I have is that we have done a gty. inside stateroom, so I know we won't know our cabin assignment until the day of sailing.

This is my husband's first vacation (ever..he always takes time off to visit friends or family, so this is really the first vacation for him), and I'd like to somehow see if we can get an upgrade. I don't even mind paying for it, as long as it's not astronomical.

Any ideas on what we should do? Should we just wait until embarkation, see if the upgrade gods are with us, or is this worth a phone call to Carnival to see if there's any sort of request I can place.

Thanks,

Contact your TA a couple of weeks before your cruise. Carnival may have assigned you a cabin...and you may have already gotten the upgrade you desire. If not, tell them what you're telling us [about paying a modest amount]. Carnival will get back to them, and they'll get back to you.

Good luck. I hope you get what you are looking for.

Did you read your documents? and it said TBA for cabin assignment? sometimes you get one before you sail. But the TA will know a few days before you sail where you were placed.

I called Carnival last night, and to upgrade to a balcony guaranteed it's $821/person. We paid $549/person for our guaranteed inside.

Do you guys think it's worth it to pay the $544 additional to ensure a balcony, or would you just roll the dice?

If you booked an inside guarantee, there is only about a 1 and 100 shot that you'd end up in a balcony. That being said, I think that the price you were given for the balcony is a good one. If you can afford it, you won't be disappointed.

Just looked at online agencies for your May 9th cruise. If you booked through a discount cruise only agency, that balcony could be had for a little over $1500. Booking directly with the cruiseline costs you $$$

Should I then just call my TA and see if she can get me any deals on the balcony cabin?

Also, if I decide to upgrade, should I do it guarantee or book a specific cabin?

Also, I just looked on cruise.com, and I can get a specific cabin w/ balcony for a total price of $1542 (that includes taxes).

Should I let me TA know all this, so she can try to get me a good rate?

Just trying to make this vacation memorable for hubby!

I'd call your TA as Carnival will not quote you prices direct if you are already a booked guest through a TA..

(Not normally, anyhow).

Let your TA know that you are interested in a OV or Balcony upgrade (maybe a BL) .. they will be able to work things out for you and quote prices and options. I just did this last week, though I had booked direct. Good luck.. icon_biggrin.gif
