Hi all- Have Princess ships been stopping in Nicaragua this fall? We’ll be on the Coral in December, & I was wondering if we could expect to make our stop there. If not, does it usually become another sea day, or might they add on another day in Mexico? Thanks!

We're on the Coral in February and were wondering the same thing. The U.S. state department has lifted the severe threat level, as far as I know.

Very friendly people who appreciate cruisers and are grateful to have us there. Nice to go to a port where we are really wanted!  

Even the Security Guards were saying "Please come back.  We'll keep you safe"

Well, we are sailing on the Coral for the Panama Canal in December and unless something has changed we are stopping and have an excursion planned in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.

You could check under your “calander and planning” and see your travel itinerary to check.

Have not heard any different as of now...

I've been keeping track of this since I will be there December myself. While true several cruise stops in Corinto and San Juan Del Sur were canceled earlier this year, they have since restarted this past month. the stops seem to have been trouble free since. However, if you have your heart set visiting Managua up north, the princess sponsored excursions there remain canceled so far though  I haven't heard anything bad  there recently.

 

The economy has suffered severely. Both sides are in no mood to make things difficult for tourists. Every time a ship arrives now, a hundred or so media tweets immediately go out emphasizing how safe/nice everything is. Annoyingly repetitive and obvious who is in total control of the media there.

We were on the Island Princess which berthed in San Juan Del Sur early October. We did a Princess tour and there was a noticeable armed police presence everywhere we went so felt quite safe.

We are scheduled to visit San Juan Del Sur on the Royal Princess in March.

We have been there twice several years ago.  Sounds like now however it is a good idea to stay with the tour and not go wandering off on your own.  It is a beautiful country but the political scene is bad and the poverty is depressing.

My friends leave next Sunday for a 19 day partial Panama and their schedule still shows them going to Nicaragua

Good advice Satxdiver. We actually drove through a political protest but the police presence was reassuring. When driving to Masaya police had road blocked side roads near the port and they escorted the bus at various points. The Masaya Market was within a stoned wall complex and we saw a man patrolling the perimeter with an AK47.  Even up at the volcano there were three armed police watching over us.  In Granada we could venture around the town square on our own but we saw police hidden out of sight in doorways. I'm quite sure Princess would avoid the port if there was any risk to passengers and they will be actively monitoring the situation.

We were on Island as it made its way along the west coast and through the canal. We had been on Pacific in May, we bypassed Nicaragua and went to Puerto Chiapas instead. Island Princess did stop at San Juan del Sur, I refused to get off; my belief being that Princess Cruises as a large corporation was feeding money into a country where civil unrest was everywhere. I would not be a part of that. You might be aware that the US State Department had removed almost all of its people this past summer. I wasn't save then, and I don't think it is safe now.
