Taxi fare from Tokyo cruise terminal to Shinjuku Station

We are going on a Princess cruise ending up in Tokyo.  We have booked for a hotel very close to the Shinjuku station.  Just wondering if anyone knows approximately how much is the taxi ride from the cruise terminal to the Shinjuku area, or if there is a train or shuttle bus that would take people to that area?  Thank you.

Harumi Terminal to Shinjuku by taxi will cost you around 4,000 yen, and take about 30 minutes - depending on traffic.

 

If you are not travelling too heavy, you can take the Number 3 or Number 5 bus from Harumi Terminal to Kachidoki Station. This is about a 10 minute ride. From Kachidoki Station, take the O-Edo Line directly to Shinjuku Station. 260 yen per person. The trip takes about 20 minutes.

I do not think this is correct.  I am pretty sure that Princess ships are too large for Harumi in Tokyo.   Princess probably isn't actually using a port in Tokyo - they are going to use Yokohama. 

 

If I'm correct, the taxi fare from the port to Shinjuko will be roughly $150.   This prearranged shuttle brings the cost down to $105 (but I am not familiar with them and don't know anything about their reliablility.)

We left a ship in Yokohama in October 2018 after a wonderful B2B pair of cruises.  We had our hotel in Shinjuku arrange private car transfer for the two of us.  We had two 26" suitcases, and a smallish duffle (one which we always check when flying), a backpack,  a carry-on and a purse.  The amount of luggage will impact the cost.   The cost was US$160.  The transfer time required about 40 minutes.  We thought it was very reasonable for Japan and also comparable given the cost of a private transfer from Southampton to Heathrow using Smithsforairports.

No Princess Ship is small enough to fit under the Rainbow Bridge in Tokyo Bay.

Your Princess Ship will drop you at Osanbashi Terminal in Yokohama.

 

A taxi from Osanbashi Terminal to Shinjuku would be quite expensive.

There are transfer buses that can take you into Tokyo from Osanbashi.

Two blocks from the Terminal is Nihon-Odori Subway station. The express train from Nihon-Odori to Shinjuku costs 460 yen per person and makes the trip to Nishi-Shinjuku in about 45 minutes.

You could also take a taxi from Odsanbashi to Yokohama Station (10 minutes / 1200 yen). From Yokohama Station, there are many JR trains that can get you to Shinjuku in about 30 minutes.

BruceMazz, from your other incredibly helpful posys, you're obviously VERY familiar with the Tokyo transit system.  May I intrude on this thread to inquire:

 

1.  Transport from Narita to the main station in Asasuka?  There seem to be two different train lines.  

2.  Transport from main Asasuka station to the port in Yokohama.

 

we are two seniors traveling who thankfully have learned to travel with only carry on luggage.  We have no objection to short taxi rides to avoid walking and to avoid confusing changes of trains.

There are several easy ways to go from Narita to Asakusa.

Keisei has two or three different trains that will take you directly from Terminals 2 and 3

The Express will take 52 minutes and cost 1290 yen.

Limited and Local Keisei trains will take much longer and cost you less.

 

There are several other express lines that run between Narita Terminals 1, 2, 3 and Ueno Station.

If you are traveling light, you can transfer to Ginza Line at Ueno station. Ueno to Asakusa on Ginza Line is just 4 minutes.

 

Note: Be careful when pronouncing the word "Asakusa". Is looks and sounds like "Akasaka". These 2 Tokyo neighborhoods are quite a distance apart. You do not want to end up in the wrong one.

 

Asakusa Station to Osanbashi Terminal in Yokohama:

Take Ginza Line all the way to the other terminus at Shibuya.

At Shibuya Station, transfer to Tokyu-Toyoko Line.

Express takes about 30 minutes; non-express takes about one hour. Both cost 480 yen.

Stay on this line until Yokohama Station, then take a taxi to Osanbashi (10 minutes / 1200 yen)

OR

Stay on Tokyu-Toyoko Line until Nihon-Odori Station (just a few stops past Yokohama Station).

Nihon-Odori Station is 2 streets away from Osanbashi Terminal.

Thank you for all your replies, I believe Princess is going to dock at Yokohama. How is the subway in Tokyo, just wondering with our 26" suitcase each, and a big purse, are there a lot of stairs to climb and if they subway is jam packed? Thanks.

The "Rush Hours" on Tokyo subways keep getting longer.

If its a weekday, try to avoid the subways between 07:30 - 09:30, 11:30-13:00, and 16:30-20:00.

Nearly all Tokyo subway stations have elevators to the street level.
