AARP gift card issue

Is anyone having issues trying to buy gift cards online? It keeps telling me my card is declined. Then it will accept it and say my address is wrong and so on and so forth.

Also, do they mail you the card instead of emailing it? Last time I bought one they emailed it to me

I ordered some on Tuesday without any problems.  Status says they have shipped.  I never receive an email when they ship even though they say that I should.  My understanding is that they no longer offer the email gift cards.  I only recently started buying them and have never seen e-cards as an option.

AARP no longer offers the e-cards.  It also states that your mailing address and billing address must match.  This is a security feature.  You might go back and double-check that they do, indeed, match.

You will pay an additional $0.59 per $100 card for shipping.  I don't know what the shipping fee is for the $500 card.  I haven't purchased a $500 card.  Amounts under $500 are usually shipped by USPS.  $500 and up are usually shipped by FedEx/UPS(can't remember which) and have to be signed for.

In April 2017 I made two purchases on the same day.  One was for 4 $100 cards, and the other was for 3 $100 cards.  I used my Capital One debit card with no issues.  Both were shipped by USPS and arrived on the same day.  I didn't have to sign for either of them.

I skirted the limit because I was running out of time to get the cards.  This was back when the cards were randomly on the site.  I had no way of knowing if they would be back in time.  Now the cards seem to be on the site fairly regularly.

Are you trying to pay with a Capital One credit card?  The Rewards for Good site seems to hate them.  The site cares about the exact format of the billing address.

In December 2017, my shipping and billing addresses matched, but I was still getting declined.  I had to call Capital One.  They said the billing address on file for my card had the apt on the first line and the street on the second line.  I never gave my address in that format to Capital One.  I was entering my address on the Rewards for Good site with the street on the first line and the apt on the second line.  I changed the format of my billing address with Capital One.  They told me to wait 24 hours before trying again.  I waited a few days because I was still ticked off.  I tried again and it worked.

I ordered cards on Saturday and had this same problem.  I ended up calling my credit card company (Discover) because the cc thought the charges were fraudulent.   The transaction to the cc company come up as "Rewards Redemption" and triggers a security alert.

In the confirmation email it states that if you ordered magazines or gift cards you will not receive a shipping notice.  I'm currently sitting at home waiting on UPS so I can sign for my cards.  I hate waiting.

I just ordered 2700 dollars in gift cards for carnival from aarp (5 500 ones and 2 100 dollar ones)   I bought both with my capital one and both transactions worked fine.   For the larger one, I did get a text from capital one to confirm that was me.

All good.

I guess I’ll havw to call my credit card company and see if that is the reason why. I have the billing/shipping address on there correctly . It is just strange because i purchased them before with no issue . Thank you for all the responses!

I had this same issue when ordering the gift cards. After many tries closing out the website totally and retrying it finally took. It was pretty frustrating. Must be some kind of issue with the site since its happening to others. When buying $500 gift cards I had to sign for them also.

I have a Citi card and use the Citi Easy Deal site to buy $100 Carnival gift cards for $90.  This is the first time I have done this.  I chose the ecard option.

Has anyone had an issue using the ecard version on the ship.  I will have the email printed with the card number and pin on it to present to guest services.

Thanks!

Here is what you do. Go to UPS website and sign up for free. They will inform you when you have a shipment coming. I buy several 500 dollar ones at at time and since AARP will only ship to my house that is a real pain since I am at work when UPS always shows up. When UPS notifies me I have a package coming I have them re route it to a UPS store so I can pick it up after work. This method works great for me and is free.

Ditto - I do the same thing! Works great, since I have a UPS store 1/2 mile from work.

We did this in February 2018. I went to customer service, gave them the printed cards (they were e-cards) and asked to have them added to our account. No problem whatsoever. Even though we had a credit card on file, they used amount from gift cards first. If you don't spend it all, go to a slot machine and play a little, then go to the casino and cash out. We bought cards for upcoming cruise in February 2019.  Just used cards to pay off the cruise (did it on-line and it let me put as many gift cards as needed to pay the remainder of cruise). Got less than $400 left to add to my account when we get on-board. Sorry to hear they don't do e-cards any longer.  Happy cruising, Bonnie 😎

I ordered 3ea $500 gift cards and 1 ea $100 gift cards on 11/30/18. Today is 12/10/18 and I still haven't rec'd either the $100 (USPS) or the $500 cards from UPS. I haven't rec'd an email about them being shipped either. I just sent an email to AARP to see if they can help. My CC was charged on 11/30/18 after the purchase.

Have you signed up for USPS Informed Delivery?  They send an email with a picture of the outside of each piece of letter-sized mail that is arriving soon.  This won't make the gift card get to you any faster, but you would know when to expect it.

UPS has a similar service: UPS My Choice.

There’s a note on the site that due to the holiday rush, they can’t guarantee that GCs will be received before Christmas. I’m also waiting anxiously.

Ironically after I email AARP and posted here, my husband called me about 2 hours later and said UPS just delivered my gift cards. Go figure!

Good to hear you got them.    I ordered mine a few days ago...need them by Jan 7th for final payment.    That should be enough time :):)  I hope....
