Getting to Port Liberty

Other than driving, is there anyway using Amtrak from Baltimore/DC area to reach the port?

For example training to Newark, NJ and getting a cab or Uber to the port.  Isn't Newark a high crime area?

Thanks

Going on the Anthem of the Seas March 3rd.

Of  course you can take Amtrak from either DC or Baltimore to Newark Penn Station. I wouldn't worry about crime in Newark if all you're doing is getting off a train in broad daylight and getting a taxi or Uber at the train station. The station is very busy, serving rail passengers on Amtrak, NJ Transit and PATH, as well as being a stop for both intercity and local bus routes.

Just make sure to use the proper name for the port if you're using the Uber app. It's Cape Liberty, and you don't want to confuse it with a nearby area called Port Liberte.

Also, take an early train if you're coming in the day of the cruise. Amtrak is notorious for delays and you want to allow for trains possibly running off schedule.

There are 2 Amtrak stations in Newark - Newark Liberty International Airport Station and Newark Penn Station.  Newark Penn Station is a major transportation hub where it is easy to get a cab or Uber.  At the airport you have to take the free Airtrain to one of the terminals to get a cab or Uber.  The station has no vehicle access.

I wouldn't be worrying about the Newark crime statistics just passing through either of these stations.

However, I would consider the reliability of Amtrak service.  You would want to take a very early train to ensure you have wiggle room in case of delays.  Have you considered coming up the night before and staying at an airport hotel?  Trinityreservations.com offers a cruise package for $182 tax included that includes a room at the Ramada and round trip port transportation for 2.
