ignore user activated but still seeing their photo stream

ok, I've blocked one of the worst abusers of the new photo album system, but their photos are still taking up a good deal of the right side of my screen.... I can't understand why anyone would make these photos public.   There has to be a way to block these without resorting to adblock software.   Thanks for listening to my rant.
