golf4mare Posted December 30, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2018 Hello fellow cruisers, We will be traveling from London to Reykjavik in August 2019. Anyone out there been on this cruise and booked private excursions in ports? We prefer small groups and private tours. Any information is appreciated. Kind regards, Marianne
Rare LHT28 Posted December 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2018 some of the ports in Norway are easy to DIY as long as you do your homework ahead of time Have you checked your roll call to see if anyone has any tours set up ? When we did the North Cape I pre arranged a taxi for a group of us from Honningsvaag we had a couple of stops on the way & you pay the entrance fee yourself it was about 3 hrs

Kind regards, Marianne Take a look at the Roll Call for your specific cruise. There will probably be others who are either looking for passengers who might want to join them in private excursions, or who have suggestions. We've found it very helpful to read on the Ports of Call about the experiences/recommendations of others. We've also found it very helpful to read the Roll Calls of previous similar cruises, to see what "they" found/organized/etc. GC

Norway is perfect DIY but we didn’t hear much about private tours. Norway is quite pricey. Some DIY things we did with a roll call group or on our own Honnigsvag- we shared a rental van to the north cape and stopped at a bird sanctuary on the way. Some cruisers took a city bus up there Trondheim- we visited a royal palace, historical sites on our own Alesund- train ride to the top of the mountain, some people booked another train ride Flam- booked the train as an independent group then we rode around the region on a sightseeing train. Stavanger- we booked our own sightseeing boat to Pulpit Rock. Geiranger- we booked our own sightseeing bus that took us to the top of Mt. Dalsnibba(sp) Bergen- independent trip up the funicular, then bought tickets to see a couple museums, visited the fish market. Some people booked another fiord boat trip. iceland is loaded with private tour operators and we joined roll call groups. Not sure of your itinerary but i loved these destinations. Mura Posted December 31, 2018 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2018 We did an Iceland cruise in June 2006, and several Norway cruises as well. Sometimes we DIY, sometimes get a guide. On our first Oceania Norway trip (Lyn was on that one, too) another member in our group booked tours in every port and we had excellent guides everywhere. Prices were good as well - but this was in 2010 and the story might not be the same today. Scandinavia has ALWAYS been expensive. Even in 1975!
no fuss travel Posted December 31, 2018 #6 Share Posted December 31, 2018 Check the Vikingsto Royal cruisethis past July. There was a private tour for Rejavik that was excellent. Unfortunately the name of the company has escaped me. The tour was terrific
