We stop in Rome and are trying to figure out what is the usual time for disbarkment so we can book train tickets, tickets for Sistene Chapel and Coloseum and what time do you have to be back on ship 1 or 2  hours prior to leaving???

If Rome isn't your embarkation port you have to be back on board no later than 1/2 hour prior to departure.

You can get off as soon as the ship docks. All aboard is 30 min before departure.

Remember that hat it is a work day, it is a long way into the city, and if you encounter any delays in transportation, the ship will leave without you.

On our last cruise, we docked in Civitavecchia at 8:00am and we were off the ship by 8:15am. I Don’t know if you’re familiar with the setup in Civitavecchia, but when you disembark, you need to take a shuttle to the entrance to the port area, and then from there you walk or cab to the train station. Sometimes you can get on the first shuttle, but if the line is long, you may need to wait for the next one, or the next one. I would allow 2-3 hours to be at your destination in Rome, and the same coming back.

Because you have limited time in Rome, I would humbly recommend setting up private transportation. Yes, it cost more, but you’ll maximize your time ashore and not worry about time constraints. You don’t want to limit your already limited time in a magnificent city for the sake of saving some money. Also, make sure that your admission to your places of interest include “skip the line”. At St. Peter’s Basilica, the regular line looked like the line for a new ride at Disney in the middle of the summer. We were thankful to have quick access.

We used Stefano’s Rome Cabs for all of our transportation needs in Rome and they were absolutely fantastic. On time, reliable, professional, courteous, and very efficient. When we exited the terminal, our driver was waiting for us with a sign with our name. She escorted us to our car parked 20 feet away. We were on our way within 5 minutes and at our destination within the hour. It was absolutely fantastic, in both directions! I highly recommend them (or similar companies) to make your brief stop in Rome truly enjoyable, rather than spending the majority of your time getting there and back.

They have a website with pricing information for just transfers as well as organized excursions. It seems like they more people, the lower the per person cost. They will also custom tailor the day for you. Google Stefano’s Rome Cabs. Hope it’s helpful!

Do you know what time your allowed off the ship dock time is 8am. We are in port 8am til 8pm

Plan on being off first (i.e., get in line early). All of the shore excursions to Rome (which is most of the ship) leave as soon as the ship docks and they are often given priority through security, so beat the crowd (they will be boarding buses on the dock next to the ship).
