cojomo Posted January 19, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2019 Hello First cruise on Seabourn Odyssey this July (in fact first cruise ever!). Is it a good idea to pre-reserve any of the restaurants or is this not required until the actual cruise?
sunshineocean13 Posted January 19, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2019 Yes, I would reserve a night at Thomas Keller before your cruise. You are allowed to make one reservation ahead of the cruise, and, depending on the length of the cruise, you can usually make more reservations onboard if you'd like to eat there again. The other restaurants on the Odyssey don't require reservations. Congratulations on your first cruise! We took our first cruise on the Odyssey, and are now booked on our fifth Seabourn cruise for January 2020. I will have to wait patiently... Rare marazul Posted January 19, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2019 You can only reserve at the Thomas Keller Grill. Yes, reserve in advance. All other restaurants are open seating. Great pick for your first cruise!

markham Posted January 20, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2019 A quick update for those unfamiliar with relatively new Earth and Ocean, the former Patio dinner venue, and its policies. You cannot make reservations before the evening itself but it is advisable to drop by the MD desk there to request a table for 2, 4 or 6. They open at 19:00 and take reservations then (weather permitting). Happy and healthy sailing!
Rare Catlover54 Posted January 21, 2019 #6 Share Posted January 21, 2019 On our recent full Odyssey holiday cruise Earth and Ocean was typically full by 7:15 ( for good reason, as a small plates venue is a positive move), so you better get there right at 7 at first until you have a sense how popular it is on your cruise. cojomo Posted January 22, 2019 Author #7 Share Posted January 22, 2019 With regards the formal nights are the dates communicated prior to the cruise? I want to book the Thomas Keller Grill but don't want to miss out on any of the formal nights.
wcsdkqh Posted January 22, 2019 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2019 I had the same problem. Called Seabourn, and was told formal night designation is made by the captain. Was told best guess would be 2nd night of our 7 day cruise. She was correct, but we did not know definitely until embarkation. Good Luck.

It is highly recommended you make your Thomas Keller reservation online ASAP. You can make 1 reservation per week of travel but they fill up fast if you want to eat before 8:30PM. Personally, we like to avoid the noise and always book the first possible seating. Also be aware the food portions are 'hearty' at TK so we like to eat early to avoid going to bed full. Earth and Ocean (aka the Patio Grill) is almost always available early (7PM). It gets pretty crowded after 8PM.
markham Posted January 28, 2019 #10 Share Posted January 28, 2019 Cojomo, Formal night or otherwise, MDR, Colonnade, TK Grill or E&O, having a meal on a Seabourn ship is a special occasion and nothing like the experience, thankfully so, of any restaurant on any large mass market ship. So if you happen to book TK Grill on what turns out to be a formal night you are in luck. That is, lucky to be with a cruise line of superior quality which makes the formal occasion a pleasure and you are always treated as individuals. Maybe when you return from your cruise you can update us on your experience? Happy and healthy sailing!
