bestcruise Posted February 7, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2019 We are taking the Viking Hild, Paris to Swiss Alps tour and my wife heard that that if you have a hard time keeping up with the regular excursion that they have excursions that walk at a slower pace. Has anybody heard of this and does the Hild offer that? Also, are all the streets in the towns cobblestone or is it just in the old part of town? Thank you. Rare knoxclone Posted February 7, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2019 On both of our past cruises on Viking ( 2015 & 2017), they have offered a "gentle walkers" group - same tour, a bit slower pace and guides were normally mindful of avoiding inclines, narrow staircases and other obstacles. Sometimes you would return to the bus and then get dropped off at another location to continue tour.
Rare knoxclone Posted February 7, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2019 There were some excursions, however, that were not recommended for those who were mobility challenged ( Like the Marksburg castle tour). Although I did not see quite "everything" on the tours, or perhaps got a abbreviated history at some locations - I was very satisfied with the pace and quality of the tours. bestcruise Posted February 7, 2019 Author #4 Share Posted February 7, 2019 Who do you see to get on these "gentle walkers" excersions? Do you call Viking before you leave or wait and see someone on the boat? Also, are the streets in the towns mostly cobblestone?
Rare knoxclone Posted February 7, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2019 No, just wait until you are on the boat and talk to the desk. As far as cobblestones, totally depends on what city you are visiting.

The tour director will typically make an announcement at your orientation on board. You can request to be placed in the "gentle walkers" group at the front desk. You also can request to be placed in the same group as other couples, in case you are traveling together or make new friends. BTW when we took the Grand European cruise, there was a lady in a wheelchair and she was able to participate on most of the tours.
philw1776 Posted February 13, 2019 #8 Share Posted February 13, 2019 Be aware that Viking does not ALWAYS offer gentle walker tours. There was a big flap here on CC when Uniworld was said to be dropping slow walker tours.
