Weather while cruising

Has anyone ever experienced any devastating storms while cruising, tsunamis? or hurricanes? etc. Was reading about tsunamis in the Hawaiian islands and wondered how much warning the ship captains have when a storm is heading their way

Well first of all a Tsunami is not a storm and the captain would have no warning, but at sea a Tsunami is not much of a problem it is when it approaches land that it becomes a problem.

A Hurricane on the other hand they know about WELL in advance and try to take as much evasive action as they can, I was on a cruise and we were trying to keep ahead of Hurricane Hugo several years ago, we still had forty foot seas however, it was an interesting experience.

Now sudden squalls or rogue waves are something else again, less or no warning.
