I have talked to many solo people and they said exactly the same thing about solo cabins and NCL organized activities for solo travelers.

As for the fixed time dining, most cruise lines are now offering "My Time" or "Any Time Dining" options.  So don't let that hold you back.  Assigned seating is like "arranged marriage" to me!!!! LOL I cannot stick to a fixed time and venue either, but these other flexible options work good for me.

Food is very subjective. And even I can't decide which one I like best! LOL!

 

But since you asked, I can say that I am not too fond of the food on Royal.
NCL ..great variety of specialty restaurants, pretty good MDR and buffets.

Celebrity...very good
HAL...very good. Specialty: Yuk.
Carnival...pretty good MDR, buffet :meh....other small venues: very good (Blue Iguana,Gi Gi's, Italian, Guy's )
MSC...OK. Lot of pizza in buffet. I liked the breakfast pizza. The rest were not appealing to the eye.

I agree, food is subjective, but I do like hearing what people have to say about it.
