I have been reading the boards trying to get secrets of the all the time cruisers...I understand taking a power strip, air freshener:eek: , shampoo/conditioner, over the door shoe holder, body wash, water and soda. I just do not understand why the Duct tape?? Could someone please explain Duct tape:confused:. I am a first time cruiser leaving on the Spirit on April 2, and would like to be well prepared...Thanks

Oh, the 1001 uses for Duct Tape. Here's two of them anyway: if the ship is in major rough seas, it can be used to secure closet doors and cabinet drawers. And, #2: it can be used to hold your suitcased closed after you stuff it with all those wonderful trinkets you bought (or if the suitcase tears, too). :D

oh Believe me...when I first started reading the threads..I wondered too the same question, but I brought it. Sure glad I did. We have very rough weather and the shower doors where swaying and making noise. Duct tape sure came in handy.

All the above, plus many more. It comes in many colors now, and also in smaller sizes - you don't have to take that huge roll - a small one will do.

Fixed a hem that gave way once with duct tape - what a life saver that was.

Also, if someone gets mouthy..........well, maybe not, but just a thought!

I didn't come up with any reason, and I didn't bring it with me, except for the toilet paper dispenser. LOL There was a weighty metal flap that comes down and covers/touches the toilet paper making it break off before I could get the length I needed. LOL I was too embarassed to use the masking tape I brought to tape it up. Just a little thing, I'm embarassed to mention it. LOL

I've never taken duct tape along, and never seen the need to. However, with 3 teenagers on this next cruise I might have to take your suggestion! LOL!

Best thing I did was put a border of duct tape around my luggage. Makes it very easy to spot.

Also if you bring your own soda on board you can tape the two 12 packs together and put a luggage tag on them.

Have you really done that? i would love to bring diet coke with lime but thought it was nuts to try to get 2 12packs on board. Does it arrive in good shape? Maybe I should just ask for the lime and carry a soda card...decisions...decisions...what to do?

This was on HAL last year. I'd be happy to hear what NCL policies are on bringing soda on board, if it's okay it's okay. We took a taxi to the port and stoped at a supermarket to get the soda and used (well, not duct tape) transparent packing tape; in the cab we wraped up the two boxes and made a little handle with the tape and put a pre-filled out luggage tag on them and checked them with the porter port-side..arrived at the room without a scratch.

I used duct tape around my gifts I bubbled wrapped back to bring home. I also brought clothes pins to hold the curtains together on our balcony suite (but I think duct tape would also have worked). The boy used duct tape when he couldn't find the lint remover, but I think I should have used the duct tape to tie him down and keep him out of the casino (I think, he thought this cruise was a 7 day gamble all you want), but hey they did take $400 off our tab just for his gambling ($140 for me).

Hope this helps!

Great idea....I hate it when I have to keep pulling and it tears off before I want it......Not that I am a paper hog! LOL

As a woman with M.S. trying to walk through gift store, on pool deck, in Tapas Restaurant was a SEAL obstacle course. Obviously the parents can't see or hear their screaming rugrats. I understand the staff of NCL can't even touch the children when running, but why not put them and their parents off at the next stop and blacklist them from cruising on any other line. Let the floodgates begin!

Folks!

While duct tape is versatile, please consider the adhesive residue it will leave when removed when you use it to secure something that is moving.

The solution? Use gaffer's tape. This is what is used to temporarily secure wires amongst other things in stage production and other temporary uses. When removed it leaves no nasty sticky residue. :)

Gaffer's tape

Cheers,

Norman
