Eriksgarden Posted April 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2019 When taking a helicopter tour to the glaciers, do the helicopter companies supply any gear? Or should we expect to dress appropriately?
pbenjamin Posted April 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2019 They should supply boots that go over your regular shoes.

Rare Crew News Posted April 6, 2019 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2019 On my Glacier Walk, I was provided boots, an optional parka, and received cramp-ons and trekking poles after landing on the glacier. Note that no bags/backpacks are allowed so wear something with pockets to stash anything you want to bring with you (bring a small cup to taste the glacier water). Bags and backpacks can be left at the helipad terminal building until you return. Enjoy your cruise planning.

FWIW, bags are also not allowed in small fixed-wing aircraft used for some other tours. It is particularly important, if you have anything in a bag or backpack for a potentially urgent medical need, such as an inhaler, to transfer it to a pocket. Rare cabland Posted April 14, 2019 #7 Share Posted April 14, 2019 On ours we were given jackets and pants to go over our regular clothes and boots - before the flight. They gave us the poles and crampons once we landed on the glacier. Here is a shot of our group getting fitted by the guides for crampons.

We are booked for the 'Mendenhall Glacier by Helicopter & Guided Walk' through Celebrity in a few weeks. The description says we get crampons but says nothing about parkas. I'm thinking we'll just layer up as best as possible and if there are parkas to be had, that will just be a bonus (called Celebrity and guy I talked to said not to bet on parkas since they're not mentioned in the tour description).
