Juneau or Icy Strait Point

We will be cruising alaska from Seattle and i was wondering what is the best location for Whale Watching.

Icy Strait of Juneau or is there not much difference.  Sailing 31 August to 7 Sept. 2019 on the Norwegian Joy.

I have booked our whale watching for Icy Strait Point. Our time in Juneau is short 7 am- 1 pm so I figured we'd just walk around.

Have done whale watching from both of these ports. Both terrific but Juneau just shades it.

Getting off and back on BIG ships cuts into the shore excursion time.

Juneau hosts many shore excursions and can be a mess - not the best of choices with limited shore time.

 

Icy Strait Point used to be a tender operation - now has a pier and things have improved !

The JEWEL is a better choice than the JOY for handling the volume of excursions.

 

And of course factor in YMMV - the type and popularity of a shore excursion and cost

Personally, I thought Icy Straights Point was one of the most beautiful spots on earth. Did whale watching there and aside from humpbacks, we got lucky with some orcas. This was early July 2018.

Icy Straight is better for whale watching.

Icy Straight ..you can watch them right from the ship quite often ...

Absolutely Icy Strait Point- we had the most amazing experiences there with bubble net feeding and multiple humpback whales.  It is all up to the whales however, so no one can guarantee anything.  If you want a recommendation of a vendor to use, let me know
