There is a big difference between what is legal and what is ethical.  I am curious if the 25% future cruise certificate can be used on any category/timeline?  example -  Can you book a sailaway 3 days before departure with that 25% future cruise certificate?  Otherwise 25% on a cruise purchased 6 months out aint worth squat.

Remember it is 25% off of what you paid on the bait and switch cruise.  We called about it and it is actually less then what they refunded us for the actual cruise. It is not 25% off whatever cruise you might be looking at.

Our Transpacific cruise on the POA from San Francisco to HNL via the Hawaiian Islands was shortened by one day. We were notified as we boarded our plane to SF. This required an extra day in SF. NCL covered our lodging after we submitted our receipts. Took about 90+ days. We were not refunded our missed day because they paid for our hotel. They gave us 50% off any cruise we booked within the next 12 months. The 50% was 50% of what we paid for our cruise. We were in a suite but got a slamming deal on the cruise...$1300 pp.

It never occurred to us to hire a lawyer! We didn’t whine for weeks. What we did was ENJOY our extra day in SF, loved having one less sea day and really enjoyed the 14 day British Isle Cruise on the Jade using our discount,  plus this cruise to Hawaii was a fantastic deal to begin with.

The drydock wasn’t finished so the spa and other venues were closed. We’re we angry about being “screwed” out of the cruise we paid for....no.....we were on a beautiful ship to Hawaii. We ended up loving the cruise in spite of the disappointments.

A very different scenario. I also would have loved1 less sea day. We had 2 additional sea days and 2 less ports plus there were 2 itinerary changes within a week of cruising meaning cancelling excursions rescheduling then cancelling again and rescheduling over a holiday weekend. And your getting 50% off your next cruise for missing 1 sea day.

FYI all cruise lines future cruise credits work that way. Or at least the mainstreams. Got 25% on royal once and it was calculated off the cruise fare paid ignoring any taxes or fees (or additional items like drink or dining packages).

Agreed, it is completely different. We're also talking about the way it was handled by NCL retrospectively, not how we enjoyed, or felt, or celebrated on said cruise.

It could not be more different:

- 1 day vs 2

- 50% of our ports

- a true trans-ocean cruise, not a domestic cruise from the NoCal to Hawaii

You need to understand who the demographic is on a TA leaving from NYC is. According to the Cruise Next team the average age on our cruise was 60 years old. Rebooking international flights and hotels 96 hours out is challenging enough, but when you're talking about an international cruise, with jacked up shore excursions (many folks were going just for Normandy or Paris) and needing to rearrange travel on top of everything...

Just curious re what on earth did the average age on your Getaway cruise have to do with anything?  Sounds a little like you think over 60's would be too feeble to make such arrangements or deal with changes easily.

Has anyone even received the $300 per person reimbursement? I submitted my hotel invoice the day after we got off the ship, and I haven't heard so much as an acknowledgment that they've received it, let alone a check. Phone support doesn't seem to have a clue.

Expect it the next couple on months.  Time value of money not so high these days, you Don't lose all that much by waiting.  Cashing checks for NCL gets priority over writing checks.  They are not in a hurry to part with $500,000.

THEY were not so patient getting their money from us.  NCL just sucks!

I don't know about how clean the ship was...The last 4 days there were alot of people in the medical center.  don't know about others but I had pneumonia in both lungs.  It was a bacterial infection and I had to have IV antibiotics, fluids and a high dose of IV meds to bring my temp down.  All given by IV.  my ncl med bill was over 5,000.00 dollars. Thank God that we took out a insurance policy with AAA.  NCL insurance is more expensive and AAA coverage is better.

I posted above that it will take 90+ days to get your refund. This is not out of the ordinary for any cruiseline. Your 25% was part of your OBC on board. You must fill out a form and submit receipts.

i had a similar experience and it never occurred to me or our traveling partners to sue anyone. Things happen.

I received my 25% refund as a credit to my credit card.  It was processed early in the cruise, not as OBC.  I never asked for a breakdown of  the refund because it was about the amount I was expecting to receive.  The expense reimbursement is still in process and I’ll just be patient.  Nancy

Sorry for the error. Credit card being refunded better option than OBC. Some of the posters are complaining about not getting their 25% back yet. I knew it was given back on the ship just assumed it was OBC. We weren’t given 25% back on our shortened cruise. We were reimbursed for our hotel in SF and 50% off a future cruise. We received the 50% off future cruise because the spa and other venues were closed for the entire cruise.

Everyone has not received their 25% refund. Many have not received refunds for cancelled shore excursions or even their Latitudes points. Everyone has a different situation and it is a mess. If you were not on this cruise your situation doesn't compare.

I guess I’m one of the lucky ones.  I got my 25% refunded to my credit card, also credit card refund for my shore excursion, and my Latitudes points.  I’m just waiting for my hotel reimbursement, and I’m just being patient.  I think it would have been easier for NCL to just give each person $300 to be used for hotels, etc.  That would have cut down on the labor involved in reviewing receipts, cutting and mailing and checks, etc.  Nancy

Hi Nancy!

i'm still waiting for refunds of cancelled excursions and some other stuff. The last time I called they figured out that everything was stuck in pending status because my credit card expiration date had changed. That was over a week ago and nothing has been released. They are also waiting for confirmation from the ship accountant that I did not actually have two different seats for cirque. I have little hope of seeing the hotel reimbursement for at least another month or so!

Actually this is not true, Carnival gave us 25% off the future cruise fare not what we had paid.

Interesting! I know my friends that had one from Carnival worked like NCL and royal. Wonder what makes Carnival decide which type to issue?

Hurricane Harvey canceled our whole cruise-100% refund plus the 25% off a future one. Carnival really did handle it well and thought about everyone's safety. Was disappointing but we completely understood.

Right - the storm was not in their control, unlike NCL who was in complete control of this decision.

Definitely can’t change the weather. That is completely understandable.

Same experience I had with holland America- 25% off next cruise not based on what we paid for present cruise and that was for only missing one port. Not like the total debacle we experienced on the Getaway TA.

On my first Carnival cruise I complained to Guest Services about my extremely noisy cabin (right above the bandstand in the casino).  I was given 15% refund on that cruise and 25% off my choice of future cruises, not tied to the price I paid for the cruise in question.  I thought it was a good gesture.  They knew it’s a noisy room and should have designated it as a “night owl” room.  Nancy
