I didn't mean to imply that this is the only 'desirable' hotel (one reason why I didn't even list the name in my first post, until the OP asked for it), merely that there are good options that do not involve very many transportation hurdles IF one wants to stay in Venice proper. I have stayed in other hotels around Piazzale Roma that are less expensive and also very convenient but do not have the same ambiance. One could also stay in far grander hotels in Venice -- it's not a cheap city.

 

Everyone's got their own list of priorities when traveling. We can all passionately recommend our choices to others, but ultimately they will decide what works for them. 😉
