Drinks on Us or Cheers

I'm looking at booking a cruise this summer.  I have Casino offers attached to my account that include Drinks on Us.  Would the DOU apply to both adults in the booking?  If not, my spouse would want Cheers (and really, I'd rather have Cheers than Drinks on Us).  Would it be possible for us to buy Cheers for us and forego the DOU?

Depends upon how much you plan on drinking during your cruise The Drinks on Us only  applies when you are playing in the casino, including your spouse, while Cheers applies to all over the ship. You don't actually "forgo" the DOU, you get your DOU card, but you don't have to use it. I drink very little alcohol and use the DOU card  maybe just a few times during the whole cruise. If you feel you need 15 drinks a day, or whatever the limit is, and want to drink outside the casino then get Cheers. Both you and your spouse would need to get Cheers.

You can always buy Cheers if you want to drink outside the casino. I've done several DOU casino cruises and I've never said "I wish I would have bought Cheers." That said, I did buy one drink during the first sea day brunch, and I used my past guest free drink voucher the last dinner of of the cruise. I would also stop by the casino and play 10 minutes and get a drink to take to meals.

If you get free drinks in the casino, I myself would be hard to spend more on drinks outside the casino to "break even" vs the cost of Cheers. Plus I budgeted to get a couple drinks while off ship too. But also only one day on a 7 day cruise did I hit 15 drinks while using DUO.

Thank you!  My husband is rarely in the casino so DOU would be of little value to him.  We tend to have 2 drinks each at Alchemy each day and maybe a drink or two throughout the day.  I'll have to look at the numbers.  Just didn't know if it was possible.

You can always buy cheers with the DOU card, not an either or. However as others have mentioned, you have to be gambling and you both have to buy it. Given one of you will be playing and drinking mostly from the casino and just one person would be taking drinks from other bar locations (and saying that you drink maybe 2-5 a day outside of casino play) I’m not sure cheers would work from a cost/benefit ratio for your situation. I would say from a financial perspective you just use the DOU card and buy your 2 or so Alchemy drinks.

We just recently got of a cruise where we had DOU in the casino.  It was a 7 day cruise with 4 sea days.  I pre-purchased $500 in Bar Cash since I didn't think that purchasing Cheers would make sense (since you have to purchase for both at it would have been close to $900).  We actually ended up having about $60 left over at the end of the cruise (which we had to forfeit since Bar cash is use it or loose it).

We both have the DOU but always purchase the Cheers, we don't want to be limited on just getting a drink in the casino, then when the ship is docked in ports the casino is closed, so best to have both lol.

My husband also is rarely in the casino but he does come in and check on me and they always offer him a drink even though he isn't playing a machine. If you have drinks on us, I would never buy cheers. Don't forget you also get to take a bottle of wine each onto the ship.

I would also say, if you or your cabin mate are beer drinkers, you can stock pile.  We will get a few and take them straight down to the room and put them in the fridge then go back up, play and get one for current.  Same for bottles of water, so we always have a bucket or two available for afternoon pool time. 😎

I also don't think anyone has addressed this question specifically.  If your offers are Getaway or Premier casino cruises, then both adults will have DOU cards in the room when you board.  If it's a Dealer's Choice, etc.  you may get a card at the start of the cruise, but other party would not.
