One person buys CHEERS and the other BUBBLES package?

Why? Carnival is in the business of making money, and there are people on here who buy cheers for the convenience factor, even though they know they won’t break even. If people who are on here doing research for cruises, don’t you think there are many more cruisers who do less research doing the same? If Carnival implemented a middle package, that profit margin would be cut since people could use the package for all the non alcoholic drinks and buy drinks individually.

Then explain to me why Royal, MSC, NCL, and Celebrity who are just as profit-hungry, implement the very similar plans?

Possibly the base base fares are higher, drink prices are higher, different demographics, etc. Carnival appears to be trying to keep the price you see when you search for a cruise down, that comes with certain compromises. Maybe, part of that is no middle drink package. Or, maybe Royal and whoever finds people go without rather than get a drink package since the loyalty perks include drinks at some level. I don’t know the answers for sure,  but neither do you. I’d imagine Carnival is choosing not to have a middle package in spite of everyone else having it, rather than Carnival just hasn’t thought of it yet. If it ever makes financial sense, the package you’re hoping for may appear.

Edit: i forgot to add, slightly off topic but, @jbethel11,  I love how passionate you are about all things cruising.  😊

because its not a limit of 15 drinks... its all the drinks YOU can drink with a maximum of 15. so if you only drink 8, that thats it. The reason is because they build the cost into the average of how many people drink and if suddenly everyone hit the 15 max, the price would go up SIGNIFICANTLY .

for example if , for a 6 month period of time, the average drinks consumed by someone is 8, then they look at that number to see if they have the right price point. If the average went to 11 or 12 or even 15.... the price would go WAY up.

thats why there is no sharing

I used to be shocked at the general ignorance on here as it related to how pricing works.  You are wasting your time, most of the people you are talking to couldn't price or project the profitability of a lemon-aid stand.

Does the Carnival position that all adults have to buy Cheers really make sense? If there is a limit of 15 drinks why does it matter if people share a few drinks? It seems that most people on here are always trying to find way to buy more drinks so why would these folks share their 15 drinks anyway? ( I know this is a little off topic.)

....because that is not how it works.  If Carnival budgeted for each person to consume 15 drinks a day then the package would probably cost over twice as much as it does now.  A program such as this is priced based on averages, somewhere someone sits down and works out the quantity and average cost of what a group of passengers will consume on average.  That over/under on profitability may be as precise as 6.18 drinks per paying customer at an average cost of $5.04 per drink.

A large portion of the group will fall right around the average and then you will have smaller groups that go more and some that go less.   It all averages out allowing you to offer this type of program at a price that is much more affordable that the straight up cost of the drinks.

But if the mom can’t drink due to medical reasons, would that exempt her from having to purchase the Cheers?

There is no exemptions on Cheers ... You can be allergic to alcohol and they would still require you to buy cheers

Keep in mind Cheers covers other stuff like coffees and waters etc So you would need to decide if you would drink enough and that your mom would drink enough of the specialties to make it worth otherwise just buy your drinks as you go

One of the things Carnival strives for is to offer the lowest cruise prices in the industry. Earlier in this thread you said something similar to you cruise on  Carnival because it is less expensive than RCCL. That alone should tell you that you can’t directly compare one cruise line to another.  Carnival likely makes far less in profit than other cruise lines based on cruise fares alone. However, Carnival is going to make up for that lost revenue once they get you on the ship thru programs like Cheers and Bubbles, and numerous other revenue streams like speciality restaurants, bingo, excursions, casino, spa, etc.  It’s not as simple as cruise line “x” does it, so Carnival should do it too.
