js Posted July 11, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2019 Hi. I am going to book five balcony cabins on the Encore. Deck 8 looks like a fabulous deck since it has the waterfront, bars, shops, etc. But, it is over the Theater, which is on Deck 7. I always sandwich myself between decks of cabins. I'm guessing for those that have sailed other ships, being over the theater is not a place you would want to book. Has anyone booked over the theater or should I just go to Deck 9? Was really thinking it would be great and fun to be on Deck 8 (like when we were on Deck 6 of Allure, walked out and was out on the Boardwalk) but not sure about the noise. Thanks. WickedRed Posted July 11, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 11, 2019 I was above the theater in an inside on the Dawn once. Overall it wasn't a bad place to be. Though I could faintly hear the louder parts and feel the shows that were going on below. Usually at night during the last performance of the day probably Rock of Ages and Elements, if I was in my room early. It wasn't enough to make me say I'd never stay in those room in the future. Rare KeithJenner Posted July 11, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 11, 2019 I’ve stayed in the mini suite with large balcony on the Breakaway and Getaway, which is on deck 8 above the theatre a couple of times. Never heard a sound.

Thank you. If we are out having dinner at 7 pm, I would guess we wouldn't hear too much just if my mom returned to the room in the evening but even then, she may not even notice. Do they blast the music and rehearse also during the early mornings? 29 minutes ago, KeithJenner said: I’ve stayed in the mini suite with large balcony on the Breakaway and Getaway, which is on deck 8 above the theatre a couple of times. The Deck 8 location just looks fabulous to me since that is where we would basically be ending our evenings on Deck 8 or Deck 7. When I look at the deck plans and look at Deck 7, it looks like the Theater is actually a little more aft than where the cabins are so I think this may be a great area. Thank you. It varies, but certainly back when we first stayed in one of those cabins we spent a reasonable amount of time back in the cabin in the evening as our son was relatively young then. tallnthensome Posted July 11, 2019 #6 Share Posted July 11, 2019 If you’re concerned, ask yourself if it’s really that hard to walk down one flight of steps to deck 8. You won’t catch me booking a room above or below any theater, casino, or galley .....
Bonobochick Posted July 11, 2019 #7 Share Posted July 11, 2019 I stayed over the theatre on the Gem once in a balcony and while I was usually out during the shows, I did hear very clearly one night very late a crew event through the floor where they were calling numbers for some sort of raffle. It wasn't fun for me. Other than that, it was fine.
RedwingHockeyFan Posted July 11, 2019 #8 Share Posted July 11, 2019 Actually, I've felt all of the rooms have really good sound insulation. Except for the occasional child running through the halls, loud couples talking in the next room or their toilet flush.

I would sort of agree with this, with the caveat that deck 8 includes some particularly nice cabins (ie with large balconies). I would certainly look elsewhere for a standard cabin. js Posted July 11, 2019 Author #10 Share Posted July 11, 2019 Thank you all very much! I appreciate the time you take to give your opinions. While it isn't difficult for me to get up/down stairs, being a gym rat LOL, it is more difficult for my mom and easier to be right where the action is located but it is what it is. I just was looking at the deck plans and it looks like all those cabins, with the exception of the M6s, are triple and quads. I need two triples and 2 doubles (four cabins) and I'm not sure my TA will be able to book doubles in a triple room, although I just sent him an email to ask. If I can, I will have to then decide and if he can't, it made my decision for me and I'll book on Deck 9. Thank you all very much! I'll report back. Vyhanek Posted July 11, 2019 #11 Share Posted July 11, 2019 We were in a lovely suite on the Sun several years ago that was right over the theater. During the day it was really quiet. In the evening, during the shows it was really loud. The speakers were mounted on the floor below and it got so loud our room vibrated. For us, we had young children who were exhausted from busy days cruising and we were trying to put them to bed. Between the hours of 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, up to 11pm it was unbearably loud. You wouldn't want to be in the room and definitely won't want to try to sleep at all during that time. But if you are out dining, watching the shows and out of the room between 8-11pm you won't be bothered at all.
Sand and Seas Posted July 11, 2019 #12 Share Posted July 11, 2019 I do think it matters what class ship you are on and whether you are in an Inside or a Balcony. On the newer ships those Large Balcony Mini-Suites are not directly over the Theater.
gizfish Posted July 12, 2019 #13 Share Posted July 12, 2019 We were in a cabin over the theater on Breakaway. Would not do that again. We did hear some noise during the shows. But, the main problem was that when they used the theater for rehearsal in the mornings or during the day, the thump thump of the base was annoying enough to prevent napping and/or relaxing. js Posted July 17, 2019 Author #14 Share Posted July 17, 2019 Thank you all very much. We decided to do two Haven cabins so moved our location but would have been very tempted to book on Deck 8. The location looks fabulous!
