rgaudet Posted July 13, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2019 Doing an Alaska cruise in August from Vancouver. Has anyone used a good car service there?
2SailingNomads Posted July 13, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 13, 2019 We used AEROCAR SERVICES last year and were pleased with them, on-time and clean SUV. https://aerocar.ca/
alwaysonaship Posted July 14, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2019 Are you referring to transport from the airport? The taxis are right out front, and it is a fixed price. If I remember from last year about $30. Just love Vancouver
Rare martincath Posted July 14, 2019 #4 Share Posted July 14, 2019 If you do indeed mean for airport to ship, then Aerocar linked above is the only sensible limo company to use (they have the exclusive franchise and operate fixed walkup fares from YBR which cost less than the legal minimum price on any other route - you can find the rates on their website based on what size of car you need, but remember to add 5% GST and tip to the number you see. You *can* book another company to come collect you at the airport, but they would be legally required to charge you a minimum of 1 hour at $90+ and usually apply an extra $50 'meet & greet' fee to guarantee your pickup time so unless you enjoy throwing money away it's best to use Aerocar...) Regular cabs are CAD$35 fixed rate to the pier since you're a fellow Canuck, which is a little under US$30 so above poster is probably accurately recalling the equivalent US fare. They also operate on a walk-up basis at YVR though the queue is usually a bit longer than for limos - which we've never had to wait for, ever, so hop in when we see the cab line is looking lengthy and we just want to get home and crash after a long trip. Qualitatively every local limo and taxi company seems to have a pretty mediocre rep based on Yelp reviews, but Aerocar at least have to prove their cars meet the required standards of cleanliness to the airport to maintain their franchise rights as well as the local passenger transportation board from a safety perspective, so it's pretty safe to assume they are the least-bad local limo firm! No Uber etc., and definitely none before September this year. The local pretend-Uber, Kater, which basically lets you use an Uber-esque App to hail regular cabs, is utterly pointless at YVR as you cannot prebook taxis there by any method - it's walkup only as there simply isn't room for cabs to lurk around picking people up anywhere else! arzz Posted July 15, 2019 #5 Share Posted July 15, 2019 (edited) We used a car service from Vancouver to Seattle last May and had a terrible experience. It was Seattle Elite Town Car. Many great reviews on yelp and elsewhere on line. Yet, they could not tell us where to meet their car. We called, as instructed, when we arrived at the port and asked where to go. They could not give us an answer. We called back and forth for over an hour. Kept being promised the car was on its way to us. Never offered to have us talk to the driver himself. Did not even offer us a liscense plate number to identify the car. In the end we had to lug our cases through Canada Place and across the street and down the block to meet the driver. Car was very nice and it was very clean. Driver was also nice. We are senior citizens so dragging our bags was not fun. Not sure who to blame (though dispatch and reservations were probably most at fault). If you are looking for a car service to Seattle I suggest you avoid these guys. raphael360 Posted July 20, 2019 #6 Share Posted July 20, 2019 We've found taxi service in both Vancouver and Montreal to be very good and very reasonable. But I'm comparing their taxi service to our taxi service in the US (which is hit or miss and expensive).
