Is there a designated area to meet Uber/Lyft drivers for transfers to the airport?

We just did this July 20 and there is a designated ride share spot. It was very expensive to go to Fort Lauderdale, we paid $102 for an Uber XL.

Has anyone used Uber or Lyft for four adults and 8 suitcases from Port of Miami to the luggage lounge?  We don’t have to be at the airport until 1:30 and are trying to decide what to do after we disembark.  Saturday disembark day. Would a private car service be a better option due to the amount of luggage we’ll have? Thanks for your help!

What is 'surge' pricing. I've never heard of that?  Thanks.

During high demand periods the normal prices may be multiplied to 2 or 3 times the normal rate.  Applies only for a limited geographic area, and the higher rates tend to attract LOTS of drivers. In the DC area I have seen surge prices of 5 times the normal rate during snow storms or after a big concert - I find it cheaper to relax, grab a drink, wait 15-30 minutes, and let prices return to normal.

They’re just doing what hotels, cruises, party places, etc do during holiday or sports events.  Good idea just to chill out until the price comes down.

Thanks for the explanation!
