RedRoadKing02 Posted August 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2019 I will be on the Pride next week and would like a Clamshell for Half Moon Cay. How do you rent them? Can they be reserved online?
dltvermont Posted August 6, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 6, 2019 Ive been watching a couple other threads on HMC as we will be there in April. Apparently you cannot reserve them online, only at the island when you get off the ship.
czechcruzr Posted August 6, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 6, 2019 You have to rent at the beach. Go to the rental hut, they will give you a receipt and then you go pick one out and wait for an attendant to come by and "unlock" it.
Djptcp Posted August 6, 2019 #4 Share Posted August 6, 2019 We used to rent them online before the cruises, but those were on Holland America cruises not Carnival. They also used to cost less than $15 and now they are almost $40. Well worth the price, though, if you don't want to rent a cabana as it's nice to have some shade and not have to sit on the sand. The loungers on the beach without the clamshells get taken pretty quickly, especially those close to things like food and drinks.
Lottacruises Posted August 6, 2019 #5 Share Posted August 6, 2019 I think we paid $20 last month, but of course I can be remembering wrong. Definitely worth it even at double the price.
TNcruising02 Posted August 6, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 6, 2019 I believe we paid $29 in June of this year. Well worth the money for us! Just go to the rental hut at the left as you get to the beach. Once you have rented them, they will give you a receipt and you can walk down the beach and give the receipt to an employee who will set up the clam shell for you. They will stick the receipt in the top of the clam shell.
GradUT Posted August 6, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 6, 2019 Those clamshells can be stifling inside as there's no air flow. And, as you can see from the photo above, you are cheek-to-jowl with hundreds of other people. We find it much better to walk down the beach, grab some of the loungers stacked toward the end of the populated area and put them under one of the many shade trees. We've done that on two visits to HMC and it's great! You get shade, a breeze, a view of the ocean and quiet but you're still within walking distance of the dining area and bars.
BiscayneBay460 Posted August 6, 2019 #8 Share Posted August 6, 2019 We rented one last October. Didn’t even use it.

So there are shade trees? Do others do what you suggest or was it just you?

Yes, if you walk down the beach around cabana #12 or thereabouts, there are plenty of shade trees there. Here's a picture shot from our cabana last year. As you can see, the shade extends out over the beach area. 1

GradUT Posted August 10, 2019 #12 Share Posted August 10, 2019 And if you are willing to walk down even further, you’ll have the shade trees and few, if any, of those loungers blocking your view and access to the water.
Treyatl2006 Posted August 10, 2019 #13 Share Posted August 10, 2019 We rented one but ended up letting them down because they blocked the breeze. Like someone stated... Find a lounger in the shade. Or better yet find someone to go in with you and rent a Cabana.

Get away from the crowds and get some free shade with a breeze and a great view.
