Just off the Pride!

JGB

Recommended Posts

We got off the Pride today, in fact, we were off the ship prior to 9 a.m.
I will write more later but quickly I want all to know that we had the best time. In fact our 2 girls 16 and 18 (seperate cabin) rated the cruise a 10. I rate every cruise a 10 I am a push over and an easy target, but my girls oh my!

Hi John, Rest up from the cruise and hurry to give us all the details. Don't leave anything out! What room did you have? How was the weather? the food? the entertainment? the ports? your shore tours? the service? I'm looking forward to hearing everything in preparation of my cruise on the Pride!!!!

Kathy

Kathy,

Just a little now. We got to the pier at 10:45 and checked in at the Queen Mary. There was absolutely no wait. However we didn't get to board till 12:45 as people were still debarking till after 12:00. I found out later in the week that usually 8 custom agents are on duty however that day they only had 5.
We were in cabin 7347 V. deck wrap around balcony. The cabin was awesome. It actually was 3 different rooms plus a 2 sink bathroom with a full bath that was also a whirlpool. We experianced no adverse motion as a result of being aft, and having the huge balcony really was a plus. Note when you lie down to sunbathe there is no breeze so you bake a bit. 2 t.v.'s also come with this cabin. The shower water pressure was amazing. Our steward Robert was first rate.
More later.

did you have a guaranteed balcony or was this the room you ordered?

Thanks for the first tidbit on your trip. We also have booked a wraparound balcony- #4228- Main deck - the opposite aft corner of your room. I'm glad to hear that you bake on these balconies. We want to lay out in the sun as much as possible and look forward to the balcony and being able to avoid the chair hogs at the pool I look forward to your next installment.

I would have gone on line during the cruise to cruise critics, in fact that was my intention but the Internet on board was down for 4 days! They had to fly in a tech from Miami to P.V. and he still didn't get it going till Cabo. They gave me a full refund even though I had used some minutes on Sunday(day 1). OK where to start. The ship itself is magnificent my family all agree that it is our favorite. We have been on the most of the Carnival class ships and the Star Princess. Yes it is a loooong walk from the aft cabin to the Taj Mahal but one has to work off those carbs some how. And during that walk if one makes it on deck 2 or 3 there are alot of interesting sites and sounds along the way. Still I wish they had an elevator that went to the front of the ship :-) ...more...

The Carnival Pride has many different Caberet performers there is absolutely no lack of entertainment. In fact after the Thursday night guest talent show which my daughters best friend was in (bravo!!) the CD did a skit with members of the audiance called "A bed time story" which was insanely hysterical. My voice was literally horse from laughing so hard. I have been on 12 cruises and never saw this before. Believe me it is not to be missed. The band Sha-Boom was vacationing on the Pride last week so they played a couple of sets outdoors on two different nights. this had nothing to do with Carnivals entertainment line up although Carnival got behind it very quickly. The first night they played most of the guests went to see them and not the production show. So the secound night they were to play the CD rescheduled the production show to an earlier time so guest could see both.
We did not eat in David's for 2 reasons 1) we were not interested in a 3 hour dinner and 2) the food was very good to excellent in the dinning room. Each night they have a variety of main dishes we found out that on Wed. night they were having filet mignon well that night we were in P.V. and had planned to eat off the ship(Cafe des Artiste $200 US for 3 with no liquor)the Matre de on the Pride had the chef order 4 filet's for us Thurs a.m. so that we could have it that evening. Now that is service. .. more..

KC- Have a great trip. I look forward to your thoughts when you return.

JGB- How much did the internet access run? I've said that I would go without internet for a week, but maybe I'll reconsider.

I knew it would be a long walk from our cabin on the aft deck, but it's a way to get some exercise for me. I have a disability but I am bringing my walker with on the cruise. So, this long walk that I will be forced to take will do me good. And the reward for having the large wrap around balcony is definitely worth it! Let's see the internet ran $100 for 250 minutes plus 20 bonus minutes if you signed up on Sunday. Another package was $55 for 100 minutes plus 10 bonus minutes if you signed up on Sunday.
By the Way the shows were first rate and a considerable amount of money was spent on costumes.

Let's see here my wife spent some time in the casino so I can answer any specific Q about it. I found it very lively with decent entertainment.(a singer/guitar player) There was a quater video poker progrssive that got up to $3200 before it was hit. Most poker machines were 6/5. There were some 7/5 that paid $2500 for the royal.
I went to ever art auction and picked up some nice pieces. The auctions probably sold around 70k so there was some heavy bidding at times. One gentleman bought a Dali for $9600. About 5 or 6 Max's were sold totalling 20k.
I am not much of a sun worshiper so general cloudiness while at sea did not bother me. It was hot in P.V. and the water was very warm. I mean very warm. We rented jet ski's at Paradise village and had a blast. The beach there is huge and quite clean. In Maz we took the Stone Island tour and again had a very good time. The water was much cooler. Did the bannana boat and also horse back riding. In cabo we ate and shopped had a wonderful lunch.

I hope this helps.

Welcome back. Happy to hear you had a fun time. Just one question - did you find the log book in the Library. Just curious?

For what it's worth, in Puerto Vallarta, right next to the dock, is a "flea market" that has an internet access shop. They sell their access at $3 for 10 minutes. On the ship the per-minute price was 75 cents, so you can see that if you just want to send one email or check on one thing right in the middle of the trip that might be a better way to go.

Trace,

The last thing I heard (2 weeks ago) was that it was in the Library, I believe it was on the "C" shelf (for Cruise Critic and Carnival).

I have a friend on the ship right now. He said he would look for it. I will keep you updated.

Thanks John for trying.
