Currency for Amber Cove

I’ve read that you need Dominican Pesos is that correct?

We used USD in and around the pool area. We didn’t venture beyond that.

Thank you. This will be our first Caribbean cruise so just not totally sure of what currency we will need.

Taking an excursion at Amber Cove and wondering about souvenirs and how to purchase.  Are US dollars accepted or will we need to exchange for Dominican Peso?  Hoping to buy some coffee beans on our excursion.

If we do need to exchange, is there an exchange in the port or ??

We have been on many cruises and international fly and stay vacations, and we have found that US dollars are universally accepted for payment.  You might get change in their local currency, but that makes for extra souvenirs.

Yes, in the Caribbean, US Dollars are often/ usually accepted, especially in heavily tourist areas. In Amber Cove/ Puerto Plata, every vendor and shop we went to WANTED Dollars. If paying with credit card, they run it up in Peso with an explanation on the exchange rate, which we found fair.
