We must have been lucky. We have also found seats in October & November when boarding at Garibaldi - we were not on a cruise ship so have no idea how many ships may have been in port of these occasions. We board at Garibaldi when not on a cruise and there have been a few times that we had to stand almost the entire way due to crowding on the train. It was OK for us but probably would not be comfortable for anyone with mobility issues.

Get on the Circumvesuviana train at Porta Nolana if you can That being said, though...….. on the first Sunday of November when we were there, we caught the Circumvesuviana train at Garibaldi and had no problem finding seating. We must have been lucky. November is going to be far less crowded than the peak season, which increases the likelihood of being able to find a seat at Garibaldi. But a lot of the folks who ride these trains are local commuters, so the trains are rarely empty. And they can be absolutely packed during high season. Once, returning from Pompeii in May it was not just standing room only but we were packed in like sardines!
