Kizzysmom Posted September 22, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2019 apologies if this has been asked before ...we are calling at Malta for our first ever visit on our upcoming cruise and I was wondering if there is a shuttle bus into the center from the cruise terminal as it looks a bit of a trek..TIA
BrianI Posted September 22, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2019 There is no shuttle but if you walk about 300 yards towards the harbour entrance you can take the Barrakka lift which takes you up to the centre. https://www.visitmalta.com/en/upperbarrakkalift Last time I was there it cost €1 to go up and free to come down Brian

Turn right out of the port, walk along the flat for 5 minutes. On the left, across the road before you go under a bridge is the elevator which takes you up to the Battery. There was a small charge to go up but free to go down. You are pretty well in the centre from thete.

BrianI Posted September 22, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 22, 2019 If you want a coffee or light lunch, then the Caffee Cordina is an excellent traditional coffee house. It is located on the main road near the cathedral. http://www.caffecordina.com/caffe-cordina/the-history/ A visit to the cathedral is worthwhile https://www.maltainfoguide.com/st-johns-co-cathedral.html Brian
ann141 Posted September 22, 2019 #6 Share Posted September 22, 2019 We caught the ferry over to the three cities which was great, cost less than 2 Euros return(and included the Barrakka lift and was almost opposite the lift.
kruzseeka Posted September 23, 2019 #7 Share Posted September 23, 2019 (edited) Just looked at the link for the Caffee Cordina Brian. Looks great and very reasonable too. Thanks - we'll give that a try. Ann141 - we've never been across to the three cities but it sounds interesting and something we'd be interested to do when we go next year. When you get across on the ferry, how easy is it to get around? I've just Googled the Three Cities to learn more about them but am unsure which bits to visit or how best to go about it. Can you offer any tips please? Edited September 23, 2019 by kruzseeka
ann141 Posted September 23, 2019 #8 Share Posted September 23, 2019 I can t remember the details except to say that the nicest area is around the place where the ferry drops you off.We walked every where but did end up getting lost. There are taxis so that might be a good idea.We loved Malta and for us it was our favourite port of call.Enjoy! If the best part is near the ferry drop off, that will be fine for us and see how far we want to potter. Thanks - we'll give that a go.

It looks expensive from the outside but prices are very reasonable, €2.20 for a cappuccino for example. There are some beautiful frescos painted on the walls and ceiling. Yes...we were just there this past May did an amazing small group private tour (GOT fans) and took the elevator down no charge after our tour was over and we walked around town and had lunch before going back to ship. Absolutely loved Malta !!!!!
