MOM & SUN TAKE NCL SUN Halloween Cruise 10/31/19

I actually started reading your review before my cruise and was more inspired to do A review as well and yes it is time consuming but also fun reminiscing lol . You have a beautiful family!

I have been reading reviews on CC for some time now and also enjoy the Live reviews and was planning on doing this review live and that was one of the reasons I purchased/upgraded the wifi package.

I tried to go online a few time and even tried some social media sites and noticed that the WiFi was not working for me so I made a stop at guest services and was told my account had been deactivated, because the credit card I had put on file would not let them authorize some charges. I explained to the rep that I have never had any issues with my card in the past and I was not sure what was going on. 

I asked what was it that they were trying to authorize as I hadn’t brought anything the few hours that we had been onboard. 

I was told they tried to authorize/hold $200 and that it probably didn’t go through if I hadn’t told the card holder that I was traveling. 

I again told her I wasn’t sure what was going on. But in any event I had already prepaid for the Wifi and I would like those services to be available to me. She sent me to another desk to take care of it. My Wifi didn’t start until later that night so it kinda threw things off for me. So here I am back to reality and doing this “quick review”

After dinner DS spent some time at Splash Academy(7th Floor Aft)

 

 

DS was a little jealous of The Entourage for 13-17 year old room that was right across from Splash Academy.  Every time we passed by there was no on there.

I spent some time with some solo travelers I meet on the cruise roll call.and hung out at Bliss Lounge where there was a Halloween Party and Costume Contest. I enjoyed people watching and the creativity of some of the costumes.

It was now almost midnight it had been a long day and it was time for me to turn down. I headed to deck 11 for some snacks and returned to my cabin for the night.

11/01   2nd Day 

Great Stirrup Cay Day!!!

 

Arrival time 9am with last tender At 5:30pm

 

We had absolutely nothing planned and didn’t want to deal with the early birds, tender tickets and crowds trying to get the 1st tender. So we slept in late and headed up about 11 am for breakfast. The only breakfast spot open at that time was Garden Cafe (Deck11 Aft)

We had our omelette, waffle and fruit and headed to tender about noon.

 

 

 

 

 

NCL Sky joined us today and It didn’t seem over crowded at all. I found 2 lounge chairs that was semi shaded under some palm trees and close to the Bar and DJ.

Today was just a simple beach day. We had brought our snorkel gear but didn’t have life jackets and my son didn’t have fins so we headed to the rental booth.

Once there I asked the fella for an adult vest ($6) and child life vest and child fins ($15) which was a total of $21. He asked for my name and cabin number looked on a list and I was told My account had been deactivated and I needed to straighten it out onboard. I could not rent anything with cash or do any water sports or excursions. He said to tender back and forth would take me at least an hour. So now I’ve went from 0 to 100 real quick and was repeating that I would never sail NCL again. 

I was feeling the day was ruined over an issue that should have been resolved the night before. But how do I resolve an issue with my credit card in the middle of the ocean with no phone reception??? 

OK Melvina calm down, take a deep breath and count to 3.  This was my 1st time on any ships “private island” and I wasn’t aware that everything was controlled by NCL. 

I asked another cruiser if she would be nice enough to rent the equipment for me and she agreed but she was told the same thing, wow she was on the NCL SOL list too. 🤦🏾‍♀️

We headed back to our lounge chairs and I found another couple on the same cruise who was willing to rent the equipment for me under her cabin and I gave her $25 to cover the charges. Wheewww! The day was saved.

The water was calm with little to no waves. It was not the best snorkeling site, We saw a few fish, but did not see the underwater sculptures. Either way DS was happy to be out of school and in the water.

We snorkeled for about an hour until I got the worse headache and decided to head back to the lounge chair and rest for a bit. 

There was music and different activities and challenges going on near the DJ and Bar but the pounding Headache took precedence. 

We ate the lunch that was provided by NCL. I had the Jerk chicken and DS had a hotdog and burger. 

 

DS found a friend he wanted to bring back to Florida.

 

 

About 4pm We packed up our things, returned the equipment and headed to tender. We waited about 30minutes for the Tender to fill.

 

Once back on board I headed straight to Guest Services and was able to straighten things out. They were able to use my card after all.

 

DS had not got enough of the water so back in the pool he goes and I relaxed in The jacuzzi for some time, showered napped and then dinner.

 

Tonight’s activities: Splash Academy for DS until 10:30pm and then Glow Party on Deck 11 poolside for the both of us By 11 DS was exhausted and ready for bed. I tucked him in and went to Bliss lounge and danced the night away, Made a donation of $55 to the casino and headed to the Sports Bar for some Comfort food.

 

 

 

I turned down about 3am...  What a Day.

I was a little disappointed about the snorkeling too.  Very limited.  Top it off I had a major mishap on my end that was rather costly.

Thank you for the Freestyle Daily posting.  We are ballroom/Latin dancers and it looks possible aboard.  The fares are very low.

What a wonderful story about the stranger that rented your son the snorkel equipment.  My faith in humanity is sometimes questioned and a story like this gives me hope.

Always call your credit card company and give them the details of your cruise.....years back I forgot and my onboard account was frozen due to my credit card company denying a charge....got it sorted out later that day but still a pain.......And this isn’t the cruise lines fault it’s yours and your credit card companies 

 

Since letting mine know in advance I’ve never had a problem since

Hate when people do this and yeah I know people get busy w work etc but over the years I’ve read reviews that ended mid week and they never finished it 🙈🙈

The plan today was to do absolutely nothing.

We woke up and had breakfast pretty late nothing was open but the outdoor buffet as it was after 12. We ate and went back to the cabin and watched Aladdin.

 

 

Later we had some Pool time

Watched the Ironman challenge on the pool deck.

The fastest person to swim the pool length back and forth, get out do 5 push-ups, blow up a balloon and pop it.. the challenge was fun to Watch.. A young LADY did it with an impressive 39 seconds but lost to a Guy in the end with 36 Seconds and back to the cabin for lunch played a little monopoly and a watched a movie

 

 

 

 

 

 

COMPARISON..The movie channel had good “up to date” movies. I dont know if I didn’t notice it much with Carnival but I was liking the movie lineup.

Men in Black, Toy Story 3, Avengers, Aladdin etc...

Dinner tonight was in the buffet (NO PICS)

I enjoyed the adult comedy show. I love that it was actually in the Theater with plenty of seating.
COMPARISON: Carnival’s comedy shows are usually in a smaller venue.
