Are there any passengers who are currently sailing or have already sailed, on the new ship, the Grandiosa?  I am somewhat surprised that there are not more posts since the initial, maiden voyage earlier this month.

We are sailing early next summer and are anxious and interested to read what passengers in YC think!!  THANK YOU!!

I was on her maiden voyage, albeit not in YC.  If you have any non YC related questions then I am happy to answer.

I have a few questions 🙂

did you see both cirque shows? which one is better for kids?

Did you see donuts in the buffet? (my kids LOVED them on the seaside)

We saw Eccentrics and loved it but I’m not sure it’s suitable for pre teens.

Didn't see any donuts on the buffet but did not eat in the buffet very often so that’s not to say they are not there.

To “welshy74”:

Do you know if there are packages offered for gelato and the chocolate shop?  We’re bringing along our two grandsons (13/15).  Thanks!!

No, there is no package for the gelato or chocolate shop.

Do you remember how much a gelato cost?  Important question since we have the two grandsons who LOVE ice cream and gelato!!!!

Being a winter cruise, the appeal for ice cream wasn’t really there.  It looked great but I didn’t take note of the price.   The kids will love the chocolate shop.. I hope they are saving hard!!

It’s a specialist chocolatier so it’s certainly not cheap and there is a LOT of choice.  You can even design your own chocolate bar!  I cannot recall the actual cost but that was expensive.

Entertaining the kids will be expensive as the fun stuff has additional charges. So put aside €100+ for each child which will cover bowling, VR maze, 5D experience, racing simulator and the arcade.  Free activities are the water park and rope walk.  All of this is the opposite end of the ship to the YC so you might wish to question if YC is really suited to having kids with you ??

We made our reservations in late winter of 2018 for the Grandiosa.   It’s our 50th wedding anniversary celebration so we’re bringing along our daughters; son-in-law; two, teenage grandsons for the fun (we’re booked for YC).

Beginning several days pre-cruise in Rome....so we can show our family all the sights including a train ride to Naples to see Capri and Pompeii.

I’m sure you will have a fantastic cruise and the kids will love it.  It’s a stunning ship

We just got off Dec 1. It is a wonderful ship. I will be doing a very detailed review before Christmas when we complete cruise number two.

Quick  summary:food in main dining rooms mediocre, Butchers Cut great, but other restauranrd minimally booked. The main theatre entertainment was superb, the only lounge that was active was the only place to dance and very crowded- Grandiosa lounge on deck 6. Pool hardly used because of cool weather. Safari pool lovely.

So many kids and the strollers are huge prams.

Most were just fine except for a few SCREAMERS.

It is a challenge to sit with English speaking folks. Be assertive unless you like dining alone. We were seated at 5:30 and the dining room were all Asian passengers. They were 1/3 of passengers on ship. They moved us to a lovely table of Aussies at 6:30.

Cabins and public rooms wonderfully designed. Staff great.

I think it is 4,5 euro + 15% service charge for two flavors of ice cream.

IMO, if  you have ports in Italy, just eat gelato on the shore.

Chocolate is around 7-10 euro per bar (100 grams=
