KMR Posted December 19, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2019 Our daughter just got engaged and thinks they would like a small family wedding on a cruise ship roundtrip to the Caribbean. Our other daughter has 3 small children, ages 3, 8, and 10. Also she, and our son-in-law, let their passports expire. Is it still the policy that a US Passport is not required and that all they would need is an original birth certificate with the raised seal on it? I hope the policy has not changed. If it has, their cruise wedding is out. Thank you.

In addition to your “certified“ birth certificate you also will need a government issued photo ID. The children, because they are under the age of 16 will only need their birth certificates. But also please do your own research and do not rely on these boards for your information...
awestover89 Posted December 19, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 19, 2019 As long as it's a closed loop cruise (starts and ends in the same US port) and it doesn't visit Martinique that's still the case. They will need a government issued photo ID and the birth certificate for cruisers 16 and older, the photo ID requirement is waived for children under 16. The only concern is if there is any sort of medical emergency or they miss the ship at any port, they will have a very hard time without a passport. KMR Posted December 19, 2019 Author #4 Share Posted December 19, 2019 Thank you for your prompt replies. They will get their government issued photo ID's. Looks like our daughter will be able to get her wedding at sea.
DrivesLikeMario Posted December 19, 2019 #5 Share Posted December 19, 2019 If people are flying, make sure their drivers' licenses are REAL IDs and that the birth certificates are not photocopies. For US Citizens, Martinique is the only island that requires passports.

SRF Posted December 20, 2019 #7 Share Posted December 20, 2019 OP did not say WHEN this was planned for. So it could be October or later.

If it's before October, you don't need passports to fly. @DrivesLikeMario didn't mention a time frame, just "if they're flying, make sure they have Real ID". You don't need Real ID for at least 10 months. Pardon me for putting some facts into the thread.
